New Testimony Places Missing German Teenager in Athens Jeweler’s
Athens, January 15 – New testimony has emerged regarding the disappearance of a 16-year-old German girl, Laura, who was reported missing last week in southern Greece. Police have received information placing the teenager at a jeweler’s shop in Athens, where she reportedly attempted to sell jewelry.
State ERT television reported on Wednesday that Laura, whose disappearance was reported on January 8 from the town of Rio, near Patra in the Peloponnese region, was identified at a jeweler’s in the capital’s Zografou district two days later. The shop assistant, who declined to purchase anything from the girl, subsequently contacted the police after Laura had left. However, authorities were unable to locate her at that time.
Video Footage and Potential Self-Planned Disappearance Under Investigation
Further developments include the surfacing of video footage that purportedly shows the 16-year-old in Zografou on the day of her disappearance. It is believed that she traveled to Athens by taxi from Rio. This new evidence has led authorities to examine the possibility that the teenager may have planned her disappearance herself.
Police have also received testimony from a 58-year-old man who appears to be interacting with the teen in security camera footage released on Monday. In the footage, the minor is seen holding her school bag and exchanging a few words with the man. Investigators are currently assessing the significance of this interaction.
Prior Actions Suggest Premeditation
Investigations have revealed that the girl sold her mobile phone prior to her disappearance, an action that police believe was intended to prevent her from being traced. The money obtained from the sale was reportedly used to cover her taxi fare to Athens. Additionally, officers discovered that Laura deleted all her social media accounts on the eve of her disappearance, further supporting the theory of a pre-planned event.
Laura’s parents, German citizens residing permanently in Rio, were the ones who reported her missing. In response to her disappearance, the ‘Smile of the Child’ NGO has issued an amber alert, seeking public assistance in locating her.
Community Concern and Ongoing Search Efforts
The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the vulnerability of young individuals and the complexities involved in missing persons investigations. The community remains hopeful for Laura’s safe return as police continue their extensive search and investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Laura’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in their ongoing efforts. The focus remains on piecing together her movements and understanding the full context of her sudden disappearance from Rio to Athens.
