Minor Hangs from Moving Tram in Athens for a ‘Challenge’
Athens, January 19, 2026 – A concerning incident unfolded in central Athens when a minor was captured on video hanging from a moving tram. The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the individual performing a dangerous stunt believed to be part of a new online ‘challenge’.
Dangerous Online ‘Challenge’ Sparks Outrage
The video depicts the minor clinging to the side of a tram as it was in motion, carrying passengers. The scenes reportedly took place in the southern suburbs of Athens and were recorded by a passerby. According to a report by ANT1, this reckless and perilous act is linked to a new online ‘challenge’ that encourages minors to undertake daring stunts on public transport.
STASY Condemns Act, Refers to Police
STASY, the public transport operator, issued a statement unequivocally condemning the incident. The company confirmed that it has forwarded the video footage to the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) and is pursuing legal action against the individuals involved.
“STASY, as in other similar cases, sends the material to the Hellenic Police and takes legal action against these individuals. The driver from the cabin does not have visibility to the rear of the tram vehicle, only to the sides, through the security cameras the vehicle has,” the statement read, highlighting the driver’s limited rear visibility.
Growing Concerns Over Online Challenges
This incident adds to a growing list of concerns regarding the influence of dangerous online challenges on young people. Authorities and public transport operators are increasingly facing the challenge of addressing such reckless behaviour that not only endangers the participants but also the safety of other passengers and the general public.
The Hellenic Police are expected to investigate the matter further, aiming to identify the minor and any other individuals involved in the filming or promotion of this dangerous act. Public awareness campaigns often highlight the severe consequences and legal repercussions associated with participating in such stunts.
