Athens, October 30 – McCann Athens’ ‘Stress-Free Banking’ campaign for the National Bank of Greece has made the Effie Awards Europe shortlist, as announced today by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA). The Greek agency’s entry is the only submission from Greece to reach the final selection.
Campaign Targets Youth Financial Wellness
The shortlisted campaign promotes Next by NBG, billed as the first stress-free banking app created specifically for young people. According to the announcement, the app helps young users build healthy financial habits and benefit from them.
The campaign will compete in the Positive Change: Social Good – Brands category when winners are announced at the awards ceremony scheduled for December 10 in Brussels.
102 Finalists from 25 Countries
The EACA and Effie Awards Europe announced that 102 finalists made the shortlist across all categories. The breakdown includes 35 entries in multi-market categories, 19 in Positive Change Effies categories, and 48 in the Best of Europe segment.
Finalists come from advertising agencies based in Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
Award Categories and Evaluation Process
The Effie Awards Europe honor the most effective marketing communications campaigns across the European market. The competition evaluates entries based on measurable results and strategic thinking, with categories covering multiple markets and specialized areas, including positive social change initiatives.
Winners will be announced at four levels: Grand, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards. The ceremony will take place on December 10 in Brussels and will bring together marketing and advertising professionals from across Europe.
Strategic Partners and Organizers
The Effie Awards Europe are organized by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA), in partnership with Kantar as the Strategic Partner for Insights. Additional partners include Google, REBORRN, ACT Responsible, and Ad Net Zero Europe.
The EACA, which announced the shortlist, represents communications agencies’ interests across Europe and acts as the regional organizing body for the Effie Awards on the continent.
McCann Athens’ Recognition
For McCann Athens, the shortlist placement signifies recognition at the European level for work created for a major Greek financial institution. The National Bank of Greece, one of the country’s largest banking institutions, launched the Next by NBG app as part of its digital transformation strategy aimed at younger demographics.
The campaign’s focus on reducing financial stress among young people aligns with growing concerns about financial literacy and mental health among younger generations across Europe. By presenting the banking app as a tool for stress reduction rather than just a financial service, the campaign addresses broader social issues.
Greek Presence in European Competition
While McCann Athens is the sole Greek representative in this year’s shortlist, the inclusion highlights the competitive quality of work produced by Greek agencies for the European market. The Effie Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the marketing communications industry, focusing on effectiveness and measurable business results rather than creative execution alone.
In previous years, Greek participation in the European Effie Awards has varied, with the competition drawing hundreds of entries from across the continent each year.
Next Steps and Timeline
The 102 shortlisted campaigns will now undergo final evaluation by the Effie Awards Europe jury before winners are determined. The judging process examines campaign objectives, strategic approach, execution, and, most importantly, measurable results and return on investment.
The awards ceremony on December 10 in Brussels will reveal which campaigns receive Grand, Gold, Silver, or Bronze Effie Awards. The event typically attracts senior marketing and agency executives from across Europe.
McCann Athens has not yet issued a public statement regarding the shortlist placement. The National Bank of Greece likewise has not commented on the recognition for its Next by NBG campaign.
