Time is counting down for the disbursement of March pensions in Greece, with the upcoming Clean Monday holiday leading to an acceleration of payments. Although an official announcement has not yet been issued, all indications point to pensioners being paid earlier than the usual schedule.

EFKA Expedites Payments Ahead of Clean Monday

According to EFKA’s (e-National Social Security Fund) planning, payments will commence before the end of February to avoid any disruption caused by the holiday. The amounts are expected to be credited to bank accounts gradually, by category of beneficiaries.

When will the March pensions be paid?

Tuesday, February 24, 2026 is the anticipated payment date for the following:

  • Main pensions for former non-salaried funds (OAEE, OGA, ETAA).
  • Main pensions awarded after the establishment of EFKA, based on Law 4387/2016, through OPS-EFKA (salaried and non-salaried from 1.1.2017 onwards).
  • All supplementary pensions for the private sector, for salaried and non-salaried individuals.

Thursday, February 26, 2026 is scheduled for the payment of:

  • Main pensions for former salaried funds (IKA-ETAM, banks, OTE, DEI, NAT, ETAT, ETAP-MME, and other integrated funds).
  • Main and supplementary pensions for the Public Sector.

It is reminded that pension amounts usually appear in bank accounts from the afternoon of the previous working day. Thus, the first payment is expected to be available at ATMs from Friday, February 20, while the second will be available from Wednesday, February 25.

This early disbursement aims to ensure that pensioners have access to their funds without delay, despite the public holiday. The decision reflects EFKA’s commitment to efficient service delivery and consideration for its beneficiaries.

The early payment schedule is particularly welcome for many pensioners, providing financial flexibility ahead of the holiday period. This proactive measure by EFKA helps to mitigate potential inconveniences that could arise from the altered banking schedule.

The announcement, though unofficial, has been widely circulated and is based on common practice during holiday periods. Pensioners are advised to check their bank accounts on the specified dates for confirmation of their payments.

The Greek economy, including the pension system, continues to adapt to various challenges and reforms. Ensuring timely payments, especially during holidays, remains a priority for the social security administration.

Further details and official confirmations are expected to be released by EFKA in the coming days. Pensioners can also refer to their respective bank’s announcements regarding the availability of funds.

This early payment initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the pension system in Greece, providing a measure of relief and predictability for its beneficiaries.
