Athens, Greece – Leonardo Hotels & Resorts Mediterranean has announced significant expansion plans for both Greece and Cyprus, including a new 120-room property in central Athens. The announcement was made by CEO Roni Aloni during a press event held in Halkidiki.

New Athens Hotel to Open Soon

The company is in the final stages of acquiring a new 120-room hotel in central Athens, which will operate under the name Leonardo City Center Athens. This new property is strategically located near the group’s existing NYX Esperia Palace Hotel Athens and is already operational. The investment for this acquisition is estimated at approximately 20 million euros.

“On Monday, May 18, we are going to finally sign another hotel in Athens,” stated Aloni. He added that the hotel, which is brand new, will undergo a brief transition period of about one to two months to meet Leonardo’s brand standards before its official opening under the new name.

Aloni also hinted at further expansion within the Greek market, indicating that the group is actively exploring additional acquisitions beyond the upcoming Athens property. Further announcements regarding these plans are expected in the near future.

Significant Expansion in Cyprus

In addition to its growth in Greece, Leonardo Hotels & Resorts Mediterranean is also advancing with three new projects in Cyprus. These include the Nalu resort in Latchi and two properties in Nicosia.

  • Nalu Resort, Latchi: Described as a family-oriented concept, Nalu will feature 242 suites, a floating water park, and various entertainment attractions.
  • Leonardo Boutique Nicosia: This 73-room property will be located near Nicosia’s historic walls and is expected to open within the next few months.
  • New NYX Hotel, Nicosia: A 162-room NYX hotel is also under development in Nicosia, with an anticipated opening at a later stage. This property will include conference facilities, a rooftop spa, and a pool.

The total investment for these projects in Cyprus is estimated to be between 180 million and 200 million euros, forming a crucial part of the group’s broader 2026-2027 development strategy.

MERAVIA Resort Officially Launched in Halkidiki

These expansion announcements coincided with the official opening celebrations of the new MERAVIA – Leonardo Limited Edition resort in Afytos, Kassandra, Halkidiki. This adults-only resort, which features 188 rooms and suites overlooking the Aegean Sea, represents a 45-million-euro investment by Leonardo Hotels & Resorts Mediterranean and officially commenced operations on May 1.

Leonardo Hotels & Resorts Mediterranean, part of Israel’s rapidly expanding Fattal Group (Fattal House of Hotels), currently operates 13 hotels across Greece and Cyprus (five in Greece and eight in Cyprus). The company aims to expand its regional portfolio to 16 properties by the end of 2026, incorporating the new Athens hotel, Nalu in Latchi, and Leonardo Boutique Nicosia.

The company’s strategic investments underscore its commitment to strengthening its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean’s burgeoning tourism sector, catering to both leisure and business travelers with a diverse portfolio of properties.
