The Ionian Islands were presented as a holistic destination for experiential, gastronomic, and cultural tourism at a promotional event in New York, aiming to strengthen their tourism presence in the American market. Specifically, at a tourism promotion event held in Manhattan, the Region of Ionian Islands reinforced its outward-looking strategy towards the American market.

Targeted Presentation and Gastronomic Delights

Through a targeted presentation of their comparative advantages and a specially designed menu by Corfiot chef Tassos Andriotis, the Region’s officials highlighted the islands’ dynamism and the initiatives being implemented by the Region to attract quality tourism and extend the tourist season.

A video message from the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Giannis Trepekli, was screened during the event. He emphasized that for the second consecutive year, the Region is systematically investing in the American market, leveraging the continuously increasing flow of visitors from the United States and the close cooperation with the diaspora of the Heptanese.

Safety, Culture, and Accessibility

Mr. Trepekli also presented the Ionian Islands as a safe and welcoming destination, offering high-quality services, a strong cultural footprint, museums on all islands, world heritage sites – such as the city of Corfu, a UNESCO World Heritage site – geoparks, and of course, the characteristic turquoise seascape of the Ionian Sea.

Furthermore, Mr. Trepekli focused on the region’s gastronomic identity and the superior quality of local products, as well as the excellent accessibility of the islands through their four international airports, a key factor for international tourism development.

Hospitality and Long-Standing Tradition

Special mention was made of the long-standing tourism tradition of the Ionian Islands and the human factor, with Mr. Trepekli noting that hospitality, courtesy, and respect for visitors are timeless foundations of the local tourism product.

The Ionian Islands are actively working to enhance their appeal to a global audience, with a particular focus on the American market. The strategic initiatives undertaken by the Region aim to diversify its tourism offerings and ensure sustainable growth.

The event underscored the commitment of the Ionian Islands to providing a rich and authentic experience for visitors, combining natural beauty with cultural heritage and culinary excellence.
