Inter-Association Committee of Cultural and Environmental Associations Established in Corfu

Corfu, March 5, 2026 – An Inter-Association Committee of Cultural and Environmental Associations has been established in Corfu. This initiative comes as a necessary and conscious response to the degradation of the cultural and natural environment of the island and the absence of substantial dialogue and coordinated action.

The Committee’s primary objective is to coordinate forces, foster meaningful cooperation, and highlight well-documented interventions for the protection of Corfu’s culture, environment, and the quality of life for its residents. The Inter-Association Committee aspires to become a unified, strong, and independent voice of civil society, standing against practices of indifference, fragmented decisions, and the degradation of public spaces.

The Committee’s operation is founded on absolute respect for the autonomy, identity, and positions of each participating association. It does not adopt or substitute the views of other entities. Every joint initiative is collectively decided upon with transparency and equality, guided solely by public interest.

Participation in the Committee is open to all active cultural and environmental associations in Corfu that are unwilling to compromise with degradation and choose cooperation, advocacy, and action over silence. The Inter-Association Committee unequivocally states that it will intervene publicly, demand accountability, and seek solutions whenever and wherever damage to Corfu’s natural, cultural, and social capital is identified.

Inaugural Meeting Scheduled

An inaugural meeting of the Boards of Directors of all participating associations will take place on Sunday, March 8, at 11:00 AM, in the hall above the Corfu Medical Center. For information and communication with the participating bodies, interested parties can contact the Inter-Association Committee.

The following associations and their presidents are among the founding members of the Inter-Association Committee:

  • Cultural Association San Giacomo: Andreas Katsaros
  • Cultural, Environmental & Beautification Association of Halikiopoulos Lagoon: Petros Lavranos

  • Friends of Vido: Ioannis Kourkoulos
  • Association of Permanent Residents of Corfu Old Town: George Zoumbos
