A Decades-Long Demand Fulfilled
This project represents a crucial investment in education, improving the quality of life for families and securing the future of children in the area. According to the technical study, the project encompasses:
- Building Facilities: 2,614 square meters of building space, which will house a modern 12-classroom Primary School and a 3-section Kindergarten.
- Sports Facilities: Basketball and volleyball courts.
- Outdoor Theater: An open-air theater for cultural and school activities.
- Parking: 22 parking spaces.
- Green Spaces: Extensive free green areas and plantings.
This comprehensive plan aims to create a holistic educational environment that caters to both academic and extracurricular needs.
Impact on the Local Community
The realization of the Gouvia-Kontokali School Complex is expected to have a profound positive impact on the local community. It will not only provide state-of-the-art educational facilities but also enhance the overall quality of life for residents by offering modern spaces for learning and recreation.
The project underscores the commitment to improving public services and investing in the future generations of Corfu. The long-awaited approval signifies a new era for education in the region, promising a brighter and more equipped learning environment for its students.
The Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece, and the Ionian, along with the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, have been instrumental in pushing this project forward, addressing a critical need that has been a priority for many years.
The next steps will involve the commencement of construction, bringing this vital project closer to fruition and delivering on the promise of enhanced educational opportunities for the children of Gouvia-Kontokali.
