Corfu, Greece – easyJet has significantly expanded its network to Greece with the launch of new direct flight routes connecting Newcastle, UK, to the popular Greek islands of Corfu and Rhodes. The inaugural flight from Newcastle to Corfu took place on March 23, 2026, marking a key development for both tourism and trade between the UK and Greece.

Boosting Connectivity and Tourism

Upon arrival in Corfu, passengers were greeted by representatives from the airport and easyJet, highlighting the importance of this new connection. This initiative aims to enhance travel options for residents of Northeast England, providing direct access to islands renowned for their rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and well-developed tourist infrastructure.

The expansion continues with the new Newcastle-Rhodes route, set to commence on March 31, 2026. Flights to Rhodes will operate every Tuesday and Saturday, offering travelers additional opportunities to explore destinations that combine history, coastal experiences, and high-quality tourism services.

easyJet’s Commitment to the Greek Market

These new additions underscore easyJet’s ongoing commitment to investing in the Greek market and expanding its network, offering more direct connections for passengers. Lorenzo Lagorio, easyJet’s Country Manager for Greece and Italy, expressed enthusiasm for the new routes.

“We are thrilled to launch direct flights from Newcastle to Corfu and Rhodes, offering greater convenience for travelers and strengthening connections between the UK and Greece. Summer 2026 will be easyJet’s largest ever in Greece, offering approximately 5.4 million seats for travel to 132 destinations across Europe,” stated Lagorio.

He further added, “With the launch of the Newcastle-Corfu route, we now offer 19 routes to this beautiful island, further enhancing its connectivity and supporting local tourism. In the coming days, we will also start flights on the new Newcastle-Rhodes route, with the same ambition: to make travel easy and affordable, while offering our customers more opportunities to discover new destinations.”

Fraport Greece Welcomes New Flights

George Vilos, General Manager of Development at Fraport Greece, also welcomed the new easyJet flights. “We are delighted to welcome easyJet’s first flight from Newcastle, which further strengthens Corfu’s connectivity with the United Kingdom. The new route further expands direct flight options for British passengers, supporting Corfu’s position as a top tourist destination,” said Vilos.

Vilos emphasized Corfu’s appeal, noting, “Corfu’s impressive natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, diverse tourist experiences, and authentic hospitality guarantee an unforgettable experience for every visitor. We thank easyJet for their close cooperation aimed at attracting additional tourist flows to Corfu from the markets they serve.”

Impact on Travel and Economy

The introduction of these routes is expected to significantly boost tourism and trade between the United Kingdom and Greece. By providing direct and convenient access, easyJet facilitates easier travel for tourists and supports local economies on the Greek islands.

Corfu, known for its Venetian architecture, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, is a perennial favorite for British holidaymakers. Rhodes, with its medieval Old Town, ancient ruins, and picturesque coastline, offers a diverse range of attractions. The increased connectivity will undoubtedly make these destinations even more accessible and appealing.

Future Outlook

easyJet’s continued investment in the Greek market reflects the growing demand for travel to the region. The airline’s strategic expansion aims to cater to this demand, offering a wider array of choices and contributing to the overall growth of the tourism sector in Greece.

This move is part of a broader trend of airlines increasing their offerings to popular holiday destinations, particularly as international travel continues to rebound and grow. The focus on direct routes simplifies the travel experience, making it more attractive for tourists seeking seamless journeys to their chosen destinations.
