Early bird travel package prices for summer 2026 are showing a significant downward trend, with reductions of up to 20% in popular Mediterranean destinations for the German travel market. This includes key Greek islands such as Corfu, Kos, and Zakynthos. These findings are based on a study conducted by the German travel platform HolidayCheck, comparing data from November to October 2025.
HolidayCheck Analysis Reveals Price Drops Across 28 Destinations
HolidayCheck meticulously analyzed holiday package prices for summer 2026 across 28 popular destinations, incorporating offers from over 60 tour operators. The analysis focused on one-week trips designed for couples, encompassing flights, accommodation, transfers, and meals. The study revealed that November prices are, on average, 4% lower than those recorded just one month prior.
Double-Digit Declines in Key Locations
The most substantial price decreases were observed in destinations like Formentera (20%), Sharm El Sheikh (22%), Djerba (18%), and Corfu (13%), all demonstrating double-digit percentage drops. These figures highlight a proactive strategy by tour operators to stimulate early bookings for the upcoming summer season.
Corfu Leads Price Reductions Among Greek Islands
Among the three Greek destinations experiencing this downward trend, Corfu registered the most significant price reduction. The average cost of a holiday package to Corfu fell to €2,390 in November from €2,750 in October, representing a notable decrease. This makes Corfu an increasingly attractive option for German tourists planning their summer 2026 getaways.
In Kos, prices saw an 8% drop, with the average package costing €2,460 in November, down from €2,680 in October. Zakynthos recorded a more modest 1% decline, with a mean price of €2,560 in November compared to €2,590 in October. This was the smallest decrease among the listed destinations.
Djerba: The Most Affordable Early Bird Destination
For November’s early bookings for summer 2026, Djerba in Tunisia emerged as the most affordable destination. The price per package to Djerba decreased to €1,810 from €2,220 in October, an impressive 18% reduction, offering significant savings for budget-conscious travelers.
Conversely, the Turkish Aegean coast remained the most expensive destination, despite a 6% price decline. The average price there still stood at €3,090 in November, down from €3,290 in October, indicating its continued premium status in the market.
Expert Insights on Early Booking Trends
Nina Hammer, a travel expert at HolidayCheck, commented on these trends, stating, “The data proves that we are at the beginning of the early-booking season, and the upcoming Black Week is expected to give an additional boost.” She also clarified that this analysis does not include specific discount days, suggesting the potential for even further savings.
Hammer further explained that “after a very strong year for last-minute bookings, the current price drops may indicate that tour operators are deliberately pushing lower starting prices to fill seats early, so they won’t need to adjust prices upward at the start of summer, as happened last year.” This strategic pricing aims to secure bookings well in advance and avoid the need for last-minute price adjustments.
The current early bird pricing strategy appears to be a direct response to market dynamics and a proactive measure by tour operators to ensure consistent bookings for the summer 2026 season. Travelers are encouraged to take advantage of these early discounts to secure their preferred Mediterranean holidays.
