With significant honor and joy, the Korakiana Philharmonic ‘Spyros Samaras’ announces its official acceptance of the invitation from the Pan-Corfiot Association of America to participate in the commemorative events of the Greek Diaspora, which will take place in New York in April 2026, as part of the celebrations for the Greek War of Independence.
Grand Parade on 5th Avenue
According to the press release, a particular highlight of the events will be the magnificent Parade on 5th Avenue in Manhattan on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The Philharmonic will have the exceptional honor of participating in this parade, representing Corfu and Greece.
Historical Significance of the Invitation
The invitation gains even greater historical significance as it coincides with the completion of:
- 250 years since the birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, and
- 250 years since the American Revolution.
The Korakiana Philharmonic ‘Spyros Samaras’ expresses its warm thanks to the President of the Pan-Corfiot Association of America, Mr. Theodoros I. Doukakis, as well as to the members of the Board of Directors for the honorary invitation and their continuous support.
Representing Heptanesian Musical Tradition
This participation constitutes a supreme honor, but also a responsibility for the Philharmonic, which will proudly bring the Heptanesian musical tradition and the culture of Corfu to the heart of New York.
Further details regarding the preparation program and the organization of the mission will be announced in the near future.
