Building Permit Issued for Kontokali School in Central Corfu, Construction Imminent
Corfu, June 20 – The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands announced today that the building permit for the Kontokali School Center has been issued, paving the way for the immediate commencement of construction. This development marks a significant step towards fulfilling a long-standing request from the local community for modern educational facilities.
Long-Awaited Project Enters Final Phase
After extensive bureaucratic procedures and coordinated efforts by relevant services, the Ministry of Environment and Energy issued the construction permit (1992119/ 19.06.2026) for the school complex. This project has been eagerly anticipated by the local community for several years.
The implementation of the plan is financially secured, with a total budget of 5.35 million euros (including VAT). Funding is provided through the ‘Antonis Tritsis’ development program, into which the project was integrated in 2022.
Modern Educational Facilities for Kontokali
The new complex will feature a contemporary 12-classroom Primary School and a 3-section Kindergarten, to be constructed at the ‘Panagia’ location in Kontokali. This exemplary unit has been designed with modern educational and environmental needs in mind, representing a project of significant value that addresses a major gap in the municipality’s infrastructure.
The complex will span 2,614 square meters of building facilities and will include:
- Safe and fully equipped classrooms and support spaces.
- Modern sports facilities, including basketball and volleyball courts.
- An outdoor amphitheater for cultural and school events.
- Extensive green spaces and planting to enhance the school’s environmental character.
- 22 organized parking spaces to serve the needs of the educational community and parents.
Mayor Emphasizes Immediate Start of Works
Commenting on this positive development, the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, underlined that the path is now clear for the immediate start of works. He stated: “The issuance of the building permit was the last major hurdle. In a few days, we will proceed without any delay to sign the contract with the contractor who has already emerged from the tender process, so that the construction of the safe, modern school our children deserve can begin.”
The project is expected to significantly improve the educational landscape in Kontokali, providing students with state-of-the-art facilities and a conducive learning environment.
