Athens Gears Up for Premier Greek Wine and Spirits Showcases

Athens, January 16 – The Greek capital is preparing for a weekend dedicated to the country’s burgeoning wine and spirits industry, with two major events scheduled to attract enthusiasts and professionals alike. Hellenic Spirits 2026, focusing on distilled beverages, will take place on Sunday, January 18th, followed by the Peloponnese Wine Festival Athens 2026 on Monday, January 19th. These events underscore the excellent moment for Greek production, bringing together tradition, innovation, and diverse regional offerings.

Hellenic Spirits 2026: A Deep Dive into Greek Distillates

Hellenic Spirits, now in its ninth year, is the only tasting exhibition exclusively dedicated to branded and standardized Greek spirits. It will be held at the KPSN Lighthouse on Sunday, January 18, 2026, across two sessions: 12:00-15:30 and 16:00-19:30. The event caters to those seeking substance in their glass, offering a comprehensive exploration of Greek ouzo, tsipouro, tsikoudia, brandy, liqueurs, and more from across the nation.

This year’s edition features 34 distilleries presenting over 150 different spirits. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with distillers and sample a wide range of products, from classic labels to premium bottlings. The showcase includes rare aged tsipouro, innovative fruit distillates, emerging Greek gins, and liqueurs that are gaining international recognition and inspiring bartenders and mixologists worldwide.

A special thematic program, “New & Innovative Products,” will highlight creations that cleverly experiment with traditional spirits, such as tsipouro flavored with mastiha or aged in Greek chestnut barrels, demonstrating the dynamic evolution within the Greek spirits sector.

Tickets for Hellenic Spirits are available online for €15 (€12 for students) per session, which includes a commemorative glass and catalog. Tickets at the entrance will cost €18 (€15 for students), with limited availability.

Peloponnese Wine Festival Athens 2026: A Journey Through Greece’s Iconic Vineyard

The Peloponnese Wine Festival Athens 2026 returns on Monday, January 19, at Aigli Zappeiou, running from 13:00-21:00. This festival brings the vibrant pulse of Greece’s largest and most emblematic vineyard region, the Peloponnese, directly to Athens. This year, the event elevates its offering, gathering 55 wineries and providing the public with a rare chance to taste, compare, and comprehensively map the contemporary wine identity of the Peloponnese.

Attendees will discover the region’s rich diversity through tastings of wines made from indigenous varieties such as Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero, Roditis, Mavrodafni, and Kydonitsa. The festival will showcase wines rooted in deep tradition alongside newer, bolder winemaking approaches. Of particular interest are producers making their debut to the Athenian audience, reflecting the current state and future directions of Peloponnesian wine.

A dedicated section, “Unfolding the Value: A Selection Under €12,” will feature labels priced at €12 or less. This initiative aims to demonstrate that true value in wine is not solely about price but about informed choice, emphasizing balance, character, and a clear expression of terroir in an accessible, everyday format.

Early bird tickets for the Peloponnese Wine Festival are available for €12 until January 16th. From January 17th and at the entrance, tickets will be €15, with student tickets priced at €12. All tickets include a commemorative tasting glass and access to the parallel program, subject to wine availability.

These two events offer a unique opportunity for both connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts to explore the rich tapestry of Greek flavors, meet the passionate producers behind them, and gain a deeper appreciation for the country’s growing reputation in the global beverage market.
