ATHENS, Greece – The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy has officially announced the opening of applications for the 3rd Greek Youth Diaspora Symposium. This year’s symposium, bearing the theme “Building the Future of Global Hellenism,” is set to convene in Athens from June 18 to June 25, 2026. The initiative seeks to establish a lasting channel for communication and cooperation between the youth of the Omogenia (Greek Diaspora) and the metropolitan center in Greece.

Symposium Aims and Participant Profile

The symposium is designed for young men and women aged 18-25, who will actively participate as speakers (panelists) during the various sessions. Beyond their speaking roles, participants will engage in a specially curated hospitality program tailored for this event. A notable feature of this year’s symposium is the inclusion of Greek Youth Diaspora Ambassadors, designated during the 2nd Conference held last November. These ambassadors will present their ongoing initiatives and activities, contributing to a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences.

Following the tradition, this year’s panelists will also be designated as Greek Youth Diaspora Ambassadors. In this capacity, they will be tasked with undertaking initiatives and actions aimed at promoting and highlighting the significant role and global presence of the Greek Diaspora.

Key Thematic Areas for Discussion

The proceedings of the 3rd Greek Youth Diaspora Symposium will be structured around six core thematic areas, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of issues pertinent to Global Hellenism:

  • Greek Identity and Global Hellenism
  • Greek Language, Education, and Cultural Continuity
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Connectivity
  • Culture, Tradition, and Creativity
  • Youth and Social Cohesion
  • Youth, Leadership, and Participation in Shaping the Future

These themes are designed to encourage in-depth discussions and collaborative projects among the young participants, fostering a sense of shared purpose and collective action for the future of the Greek Diaspora.

Application Process and Eligibility Criteria

According to the official announcement, priority in the selection process will be given to candidates who have not previously participated in similar hospitality programs and are not enrolled in other such programs during the current year. A particular emphasis will be placed on strengthening ties with youth of at least second-generation Greek descent, ensuring a broad and inclusive representation of the diaspora.

While proficiency in the Greek language will be considered a significant asset, it is not a mandatory requirement for participation. Interpretation services to and from English will be provided throughout the symposium to facilitate effective communication among all attendees.

Once selected, an application is considered a binding commitment to participate in the symposium. Prospective applicants are required to submit the following documentation:

  • Contact information (telephone number and email address)
  • A short Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • A brief statement indicating their initial interest in a specific thematic area
  • Valid ID or passport details (essential for hospitality program arrangements)

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, along with all necessary documentation, to the email address [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2026. This presents a unique opportunity for young Greeks from around the world to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the vibrant future of Global Hellenism.

The symposium builds upon the success of its predecessors, with a snapshot from the 1st Symposium in 2024 in Athens highlighting the engaging atmosphere and fruitful discussions that characterize these gatherings. The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy continues its commitment to nurturing the bonds between Greece and its diaspora, empowering the next generation to lead and innovate within the global Greek community.
