Athens, June 18, 2026 – Air Canada has confirmed the extension of its direct flight services from Athens to Toronto and Montreal into the upcoming winter season. This strategic move will see the airline maintain four weekly flights through early January 2027 and commence its 2027 summer schedule earlier than usual, beginning in March.

Extended Winter Service to Boost Connectivity

The Canadian carrier will operate two weekly flights to Toronto (YYZ) and two to Montreal (YUL). This extension ensures continuous direct connections between Athens International Airport (AIA) and two of Canada’s largest cities, moving beyond the traditional summer travel period. The early resumption of services in March 2027 further underscores Air Canada’s commitment to the Greek market.

Strong Demand Drives Winter Extension

Ioanna Papadopoulou, AIA Director of Communications and Marketing, expressed her satisfaction with the development, noting that discussions for this extension had been ongoing for some time. “We remain firmly committed to working closely together with the airline for the spectacular success of the route,” Papadopoulou stated.

She highlighted the collaborative effort behind this initiative, involving key stakeholders such as Air Canada, Athens Airport, the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal, Greece’s Permanent Representation to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of Attica, This is Athens, Marketing Greece, and various tourism stakeholders in both Greece and Canada.

Air Canada’s Enduring Presence in Athens

Air Canada has maintained a consistent presence in Athens since 2010, establishing the Greek capital as one of its crucial international destinations. The airline’s robust summer 2026 schedule includes up to 11 weekly flights between Athens and Toronto and up to 10 weekly flights between Athens and Montreal. This significant capacity reflects the strong and sustained demand for travel between Greece and North America.

The decision to extend services into the winter and initiate the 2027 program earlier is a direct response to this growing demand and aims to provide travelers with more flexible and year-round options for direct transatlantic travel.

This move is expected to further strengthen tourism ties and economic connections between Greece and Canada, offering greater convenience for both leisure and business travelers. The year-round connectivity will also benefit the Greek diaspora in Canada, facilitating easier visits to their homeland.

The extended flight schedule is a testament to the successful partnership between Air Canada and its Greek partners, who are continuously working to enhance air travel options and promote Greece as a premier travel destination throughout the year.
