Corfu, June 30, 2026 – A sophisticated criminal organization responsible for a series of house burglaries across Corfu has been dismantled by local police, leading to the arrest of five individuals and the recovery of stolen goods valued at over €250,000. The operation, which took place in Livadi Ropa, marks a significant success for law enforcement on the island.
Coordinated Police Operation Leads to Arrests
The arrests were made following a meticulously planned operation by the Corfu Crime Detection and Investigation Sub-Directorate on the morning of Tuesday, June 2. Officers from various units, including the O.P.D.I., O.P.K.E., and the Support Division, participated in the coordinated raid in the Livadi Ropa area.
Five Greek nationals, aged 26, 28, 29, 33, and 56, were apprehended. The case file also includes three additional individuals. The charges against them include, depending on their involvement, participation and complicity in a criminal organization engaged in house burglaries, electricity theft, illegal possession of weapons, possession of narcotics, and dangerous driving.
Modus Operandi of the Criminal Group
Police investigations reveal that the group had been operating since mid-June 2025, specifically organized to commit professional burglaries. The members operated with varying compositions and roles, targeting residences by either forcing entry or exploiting unsecured windows and balcony doors.
To date, nine cases of burglaries have been solved across different areas of Corfu, primarily during the summer season of 2025. During the searches, cables used for illegal electricity connections were also found, leading to additional charges for electricity theft.
Recovered Loot and Ongoing Investigation
Among the items seized by the police were valuables, an ecclesiastical icon, two hunting rifles, €1,550 in cash, and 60 narcotic pills. The total estimated value of the stolen goods attributed to the gang’s activities exceeds €250,000.
The arrested individuals have been brought before the Public Prosecutor, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine their potential involvement in other burglary cases on the island.
The successful operation underscores the commitment of the Corfu Police to combating organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors. The dismantling of this ring is expected to have a significant impact on reducing property crime in the region.
This development comes as a relief to many residents who have been affected by the surge in burglaries, particularly during the peak tourist season. The police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent future incidents.
The investigation will now focus on identifying any further connections or members of the criminal network, aiming to bring all responsible parties to justice. The recovered items will be processed and, where possible, returned to their rightful owners.
The swift action of the police in this case highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-led policing in tackling complex criminal operations. The community’s cooperation is also deemed crucial in supporting law enforcement efforts.
The police have not yet released details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals or the specific locations of the burglaries, as the investigation is still active. Further updates are expected as the case progresses through the judicial system.
This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by organized crime and the continuous efforts required by law enforcement agencies to protect communities. The successful outcome in Corfu is a testament to the dedication of the police force in safeguarding the island.
