Corfu, June 21 – Corfu’s ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’ Airport experienced an exceptionally high volume of flights over the two-day period of June 19 and 20, with a total of 191 aircraft movements. This surge places the airport as the 5th busiest in Greece for arrivals and departures.
Record-Breaking Activity at ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’
The total number of flights includes scheduled, charter, and private operations, making this two-day period the busiest since the start of the 2026 tourist season. The majority of these flights originated from Athens, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, France, Israel, Austria, and the Netherlands.
Leading airlines operating these routes include Aegean Airlines, Sky Express, Ryanair, Easyjet, Condor, Tui, Jet2, Transavia, Eurowings, Austria, and Smartwings, utilizing aircraft types such as ATR, A319, A320, A321, and B737.
This year’s performance for Corfu Airport is proving to be its best to date, with passenger traffic from the beginning of the year through May already surpassing 2025 levels, which was previously a record-breaking year for passenger arrivals and departures.
Operational Challenges Amidst High Demand
The airport consistently handles numerous daily flights, with certain days seeing such a high volume that parking positions on the apron become critical. Up to 15 aircraft can be on the ground simultaneously, significantly increasing operational activity. The high occupancy rates of aircraft further contribute to a substantial number of passengers per flight.
The ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’ Airport welcomes over 1,200 arrivals and departures weekly from 125 airports across 31 countries. The most frequent routes are Athens-Corfu and Gatwick-Corfu, solidifying its position as the 5th busiest airport in Greece for aircraft movements.
This unprecedented activity underscores Corfu’s growing appeal as a premier tourist destination and highlights the ongoing efforts to manage the increased demand effectively.
