Cassios Dias Race Celebrates 15th Anniversary with New 25km ‘Cave Edition’ Route in Corfu

Corfu, June 12 – The “Cassios Dias” race, celebrating its 15th anniversary, will take place on May 10th, featuring an impressive new 25-kilometer route. This year’s event combines mountain, sea, and caves into a unique running experience, attracting participants from across Greece.

New ‘Cave Edition’ Route for 2026

The organizers have introduced a more demanding yet spectacular route for the “Cassios Dias” 15th edition. The ‘Cave Edition’ covers 25 kilometers with a 1,300-meter positive elevation gain, offering participants a challenging mountain running experience combined with the unique natural beauty of northern Corfu. The route is described as enchanting, blending elements rarely found together: mountains, sea, caves, and traditional settlements, appealing to athletes seeking more than a conventional race.

In addition to the main race, there will be 12.5-kilometer routes and a 1,200-meter children’s race, allowing participation for various skill levels and ages. As in previous years, dozens of athletes from all over Greece and abroad are expected, confirming the dynamic growth the event has achieved over the years.

The Challenging Course

The new route will start at 08:30 from Kassiopi harbor. Runners will begin with a short asphalt section before entering an uphill path towards the old settlement of Podolakos. The course then heads towards Peristerograva, one of Corfu’s largest caves, through which participants will pass, offering a rare experience for a road race. The ascent continues to the top of Matagona, at an altitude of 640 meters, where the panoramic view of the Ionian Sea is one of the most impressive points of the route.

A descent follows through forest paths and traditional settlements such as Megoula, Kremmitha, Kariotiko, and Agios Stefanos Sinion, before athletes reach the protected area of Erimitis, part of the NATURA network. There, the coastal path leads to scenes of exceptional natural beauty until Avlaki, concluding the route with the finish back at Kassiopi harbor.

This year’s “Cassios Dias” aims to further highlight the natural and cultural footprint of the region, combining technical ascents, fast descents, and demanding trails, in a race that is not limited to athletics but also serves as a vibrant promotion of northern Corfu.
