A new incident of violence has been recorded in the center of Athens. This time, a 20-year-old woman became a victim of an attack by a teenage gang in Monastiraki. The perpetrators of the attack – two boys and two girls, aged 14 and 16 – beat the 20-year-old woman who was in Monastiraki, in the center of Athens, with the aim of stealing her mobile phone.
Brutal Attack and Robbery Attempt
The attackers reportedly hit the victim violently on the head and abdomen, leaving her injured in the middle of the street. The incident highlights a growing concern regarding juvenile delinquency and public safety in urban centers.
Arrests Made on Iera Odos
Police officers from the DIAS team arrested the four teenagers on Iera Odos. It was later discovered that the two boys were already known to the authorities for previous offenses. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the justice system in dealing with repeat offenders, especially minors.
Previous Incidents Involving the Suspects
One of the victims of a previous robbery, speaking to Mega, recounted a terrifying experience: “‘Give me the money’ directly with a knife in hand. They entered the gas station, asked for the money, and we gave it to them because we couldn’t put our lives at risk. I didn’t have time to do anything, I immediately called the police.”
It was revealed that the two underage boys had been involved in another attack approximately ten days prior. In that incident, they approached a gas station in Pagrati on foot and threatened an employee with a large knife. They stole his mobile phone and money. Despite this, they were reportedly free to commit further crimes.
Community Concerns and Police Action
The repeated incidents involving the same individuals underscore a systemic issue that needs to be addressed. The community expresses growing concern over the safety of public spaces, particularly in popular areas like Monastiraki.
Local authorities and police are under pressure to implement more effective measures to prevent such crimes and ensure the safety of citizens. The focus is now on understanding the root causes of this juvenile delinquency and finding long-term solutions.
This latest attack adds to a series of similar incidents, prompting calls for increased police presence and stricter enforcement of laws concerning minors involved in criminal activities. The victim’s account serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of individuals to such acts of violence.
The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses. The incident has sparked a wider debate on youth crime and the need for comprehensive strategies to address it.
The public awaits concrete actions from the authorities to ensure that such brutal attacks do not become a regular occurrence in the heart of Athens.
