Corfu, Greece – Greek beaches have once again garnered international acclaim, with five Greek coasts securing spots in the top 10 of Europe’s most beautiful beaches, according to European Best Destinations for 2026. Furthermore, three Greek beaches have been included in the prestigious new list of The World’s 50 Best Beaches.
European Recognition: Five Greek Gems in the Top 10
While Monte Clérigo beach in Algarve, Portugal, claimed the top spot in the European rankings for its golden sands and serene atmosphere, Greece’s stunning coastline made a strong showing. The enchanting Voutoumi beach in Antipaxos, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters and white pebbles, secured the second position. Fteri beach in Kefalonia followed closely in third place. Elafonisi beach in Crete, famous for its distinctive pink sand, ranked fourth, while the secluded Rovinia beach in Corfu took the eighth spot. Completing the Greek presence in the top ten is the picturesque and cosmopolitan Paleokastritsa, also in Corfu, known for its small coves and azure shores.
Fteri Beach: A Global Acclaim
A standout achievement was Fteri beach, which was named the second-best beach in the world by The World’s 50 Best Beaches. Tucked away in an isolated cove in Kefalonia and surrounded by imposing white cliffs, Fteri remains one of the Ionian’s most authentic and untouched destinations. Access to the beach is primarily by boat or via a challenging hiking trail, a factor that has contributed to the preservation of its natural character. Its crystalline turquoise waters, white pebbles, and absolute sense of tranquility create a uniquely beautiful setting for those seeking communion with nature and moments of relaxation away from the crowds.
Greek Presence in the World’s Top 50 Beaches
The global ranking for 2026 saw Entalula beach in Palawan, Philippines, take the top position, celebrated for its towering limestone formations, white sand, and pristine waters, accessible only by boat. Greece was proudly represented by three beaches in this esteemed list. Beyond Fteri’s remarkable second-place finish, the iconic Porto Katsiki in Lefkada, renowned for its steep cliffs and turquoise waters, secured the 34th position. Porto Timoni in Corfu was ranked 46th. This unique natural landscape features two beaches joined together, forming a spectacular crescent shape. Access to Porto Timoni is on foot from the village of Afionas, and its rich underwater world and transparent waters make it an ideal destination for swimming and snorkeling.
Confirming Greece’s Allure
These distinctions reaffirm the international appeal of Greek beaches, which continue to be a benchmark for travelers seeking authentic experiences, impressive natural landscapes, and unique moments by the sea. The consistent recognition highlights Greece’s enduring charm as a premier tourist destination, offering diverse coastal beauty from secluded coves to vibrant, cosmopolitan shores.
