Athens, May 22, 2026 – American Airlines is significantly expanding its presence in the Greek market with the introduction of a new direct flight connecting Athens with Dallas Fort Worth. This new route, set to launch for the 2026 summer season, underscores the strategic importance of Athens for the American carrier and highlights the consistently growing demand from the U.S. market.

New Athens-Dallas Route to Operate Until September 2026

The new service between Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (AIA) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) will operate until September 8, 2026. Flights will be serviced by wide-body Boeing 777-200 and 777-300 aircraft, offering a total capacity of up to 304 passengers. This addition is part of American Airlines’ broader strategy to increase capacity and flight frequency to popular European destinations with high demand.

Strengthening Network and Capacity

The inclusion of Dallas in American Airlines’ network from Athens brings the total number of U.S. destinations served to five. The airline will continue its daily connections to Charlotte, Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York (JFK). During the peak summer period, the total flight schedule will reach up to 35 weekly flights.

This expansion translates into a 25% increase in the number of flights compared to summer 2025, with available seat capacity rising by approximately 30%. This marks one of the most substantial expansions implemented by the company in the Greek market in recent years, reflecting its confidence in the momentum of Greek tourism and the steady flow of travelers from the U.S.

The Dallas connection holds particular significance as DFW is American Airlines’ largest hub, boasting over 930 daily departures to more than 230 destinations across 30 countries. Through DFW, passengers from Athens will gain access to an extensive network of domestic and international flights, further strengthening global connectivity.

The Importance of the American Market for Athens

This new route reaffirms the steady growth of the U.S. market for Greek tourism, which has shown impressive performance in recent years and is considered one of the most strategic markets for Athens Airport.

According to executives from Athens International Airport, connectivity with the United States is continuously strengthening, with American Airlines serving as a key partner in this endeavor. The addition of Dallas broadens travel options, providing access to one of the world’s most important aviation hubs.

This move is also part of a wider effort to enhance transatlantic flows, driven by increasing tourism demand and strengthening business and investment relations between Greece and the U.S.

Strategic Expansion Coincides with American Airlines’ Centenary

American Airlines’ expansion in Athens coincides with the celebration of the company’s 100 years of operation in 2026. This significant milestone is accompanied by strategic investments in its network and customer experience. With over 6,000 daily flights to more than 350 destinations in over 60 countries, American Airlines continues to play a leading role in global air transport.

For Athens, the new connection with Dallas is not merely another route; it is a clear indication of the upgrade of its role as a regional hub in Southeastern Europe. In an environment of intense competition for attracting international flows, the strengthened presence of major airlines acts as a catalyst for the further development of tourism and the economy.

The announcement was made during a press conference featuring Ms. Ioanna Papadopoulou, Communications & Marketing Director, AIA; Mr. Andreas Fiorentinos, Secretary General, GNTO; Ms. Sophia Philis Ortiz, VP – Phoenix Operations, American Airlines; Mr. Omar Nottaro, Regional Manager of Operations for Southern Europe, American Airlines; and Katerina Antonaki, ATH Customer Service Supervisor & Compliance Coordinator, American Airlines.
