Athens, May 22 – FeCHA – the Festival de Cine Hispanófono de Atenas – returns to the Greek capital this week for its landmark 10th edition, showcasing dozens of Spanish-language films, premieres, and international talent. The festival, a cultural highlight in Athens for a decade, connects audiences with the Hispanic world through cinema.

A Decade of Hispanic Cinema in Athens

The 2026 edition marks a significant milestone for FeCHA, with screenings scheduled at open-air cinemas Ellinis Cinemax and Aello Cinemax, as well as the Hellenic American Union. A post-festival event will also be hosted by the Instituto Cervantes in Athens on May 29.

The festival, running through May 28, features a rich lineup of feature films and shorts from filmmakers representing Spain, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Ecuador. The opening film is ‘Homo Argentum’, directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, while ‘Un Poeta’ will close the festival.

Featured Films and Tributes

This year’s selection includes notable titles such as ‘Belén’, ‘Las Delicias del Jardín’, ‘Un Hijo’, ‘México 86’, ‘Una Quinta Portuguesa’, ‘Tierra de Nadie’, ‘Nueve Reinas’, ‘El Aura’, ‘Nosotros, Estimados Señores’, ‘La Isla de los Faisanes’, ‘El Espíritu de la Colmena’, ‘Los Amantes Astronautas’, ‘Muy Lejos’, ‘Un Cabo Suelto’, ‘Cuerpo Celeste’, ‘Hiedra’, and ‘Mistura’. A special tribute screening will also honor the work of Argentine director Fabián Bielinsky.

Special Guests and Educational Opportunities

The festival will welcome several special guests, including directors Albert Pintó, Asier Urbieta, Avelina Prat, and Helena Taberna, actor Ubeimar Ríos, and producer Álvaro Gutiérrez. Directors Taberna and Urbieta are also scheduled to lead a masterclass on contemporary cinema, offering valuable insights into the craft of filmmaking.

For those unable to attend in person, selected shorts and documentaries will be available to stream online across Greece from May 29 to 31.

Important Update on Screenings

Organizers announced on Thursday, May 21, that due to expected rain, weekend screenings (May 23-24) will be moved indoors to Aello Cinemax, located at 140 Patission Street. All previously purchased tickets and invitations will remain valid for the new indoor venue.

The detailed program for the festival can be found on the official FeCHA website.
