Athens Drug Bust Nets Three Suspects, Large Cocaine and Cannabis Haul

Athens, May 16 – Police have arrested three men in Athens on drug trafficking charges following coordinated raids across the Greek capital. The operation, conducted by the Drug Enforcement Sub-Directorate, resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of cocaine and cannabis, with an estimated street value exceeding €400,000.

Coordinated Raids and Surveillance Lead to Arrests

The suspects, aged 36, 53, and 56, were apprehended after extensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and profiling by law enforcement officials. The arrests took place on May 16, 2026, culminating a period of close observation.

Investigators detailed that on May 14, the 36-year-old suspect was observed delivering a bag containing over 2 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis and 1 kilogram of processed cannabis to the 53-year-old. This transaction was allegedly carried out on behalf of the 56-year-old suspect, indicating a hierarchical structure within the drug trafficking operation.

Shortly after this delivery, officers located the 56-year-old in a different area of Athens. He was found to be in possession of cocaine, which authorities believe was intended for distribution within the city’s drug network.

Significant Drug Seizure Across Multiple Locations

Subsequent searches of homes and vehicles linked to the suspects uncovered a substantial cache of illegal substances. In total, approximately 11 kilograms of cocaine and 38 kilograms of cannabis were seized. The breakdown of the seizure is as follows:

  • Nearly 11 kilograms of cocaine were discovered at the 36-year-old’s residence.
  • Additional processed and raw cannabis was also found at the 36-year-old’s home.
  • 17.5 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis were confiscated from the 53-year-old’s residence.

The total estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is reported to be more than €400,000, underscoring the scale of the trafficking operation. A case file has been opened against the three individuals, with charges including possession and trafficking of illegal narcotics.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Drug Trafficking in Athens

This latest drug bust highlights the ongoing efforts of Athenian law enforcement to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating within the city. The Drug Enforcement Sub-Directorate continues to utilize surveillance and intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.

The successful operation is expected to have a significant impact on the local drug supply, demonstrating the commitment of authorities to maintaining public safety and combating organized crime. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details may emerge as the legal proceedings progress.
