Athens, May 1 – Celestyal Cruises has officially resumed its operations from Athens, Greece, following the successful repositioning of its entire fleet from the Middle East. The cruise line’s two ships, Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey, are now set to embark on their respective Mediterranean itineraries after navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
Fleet’s Return Marks a ‘Defining Moment’ for Celestyal
The Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey successfully sailed through the Strait of Hormuz on April 17 and 18, respectively, marking the beginning of their journey back to the Mediterranean. This crucial repositioning follows the cancellation of earlier sailings in March and April.
The Celestyal Discovery will now operate the popular three and four-night Iconic Greek Island itinerary, while the Celestyal Journey is scheduled to commence its seven-night Idyllic Greece itinerary from Saturday, May 2. This return to service represents a significant milestone for the company, as highlighted by Chief Executive Chris Theophilides.
An ‘Extraordinary Collective Effort’ Ensures Safe Return
In a LinkedIn post, Celestyal’s Chief Executive Chris Theophilides described the restart of operations as “a defining moment” for the company. He emphasized the collaborative effort involved in overcoming recent challenges.
“The safe return of Celestyal Discovery to Athens and the restart of our operations is the result of an extraordinary collective effort across our business and our partners around the world,” Theophilides stated. He further explained, “Over recent months, we have navigated a complex and fast-moving situation, always guided by one principle – the safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew.”
Theophilides also expressed immense pride in his teams, acknowledging their professionalism, resilience, and care throughout the challenging period. “As we begin our Mediterranean season, we do so with renewed focus and confidence. This experience has reinforced the strength of our organisation and the trust placed in us by our guests and partners,” he added.
Impact on Operations and Future Outlook
The successful return of both vessels to Athens allows Celestyal to fully launch its Mediterranean season, providing a much-anticipated return to normalcy for the cruise line and its passengers. The company had previously experienced disruptions due to the ships being stranded in the Middle East.
The resumption of operations is expected to significantly boost Celestyal’s business, with reports indicating that bookings have more than doubled following the resolution of the Strait of Hormuz situation. This positive trend underscores the strong demand for Greek island cruises and the resilience of the travel industry.
Commitment to Passenger and Crew Safety
Throughout the challenging period, Celestyal maintained a steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of its guests and crew. This guiding principle was central to all decisions made during the complex repositioning process. The company’s ability to navigate the logistical complexities and ensure a safe return has been a testament to its operational capabilities and dedication to its stakeholders.
The commencement of the Mediterranean season with both the Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey operating their scheduled itineraries signals a period of renewed growth and stability for Celestyal Cruises. The company looks forward to welcoming guests aboard and delivering memorable cruise experiences in the Greek Isles.
