Corfu, May 1, 2026 – In a significant step towards strengthening social partnerships and upgrading preventive medical actions, a networking meeting was held on Tuesday, April 23, at the Historic Town Hall in Central Corfu. The meeting brought together representatives from the relevant municipal services and the non-profit organization EQUAL Society.

Focus on Vulnerable Groups and Prevention

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor for Health and Preventive Medicine Programs, Christos-Irakli Skourtis. Its primary objective was to coordinate actions aimed at supporting vulnerable social groups and to design joint initiatives with a strong emphasis on health prevention and promotion within the local community.

Mr. Skourtis underscored the critical importance of collaboration between Local Government and local bodies and organizations. He stated: “Our cooperation with EQUAL Society marks another step towards creating a robust public health protection network. Our goal is to ensure immediate access for all citizens to preventive services and to effectively meet social needs, thereby contributing to an improved quality of life and enhanced social cohesion.”

Participants and Future Collaborations

Attendees at the meeting included officials from the Public Health Protection and Promotion Department, the Health KEP (Citizen Service Center) of the Municipality, and social workers from EQUAL Society who are active in Corfu. The discussions focused on practical strategies for implementing preventive health programs and providing targeted support to those most in need.

The collaboration is expected to lead to a series of initiatives designed to raise public awareness about health issues, facilitate access to medical screenings, and offer support services to residents, particularly those facing social or economic challenges. The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands is committed to fostering a healthier and more inclusive community through such strategic partnerships.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to decentralize health services and empower local authorities to address the specific health needs of their populations. By working closely with non-governmental organizations like EQUAL Society, the Municipality aims to bridge gaps in healthcare provision and ensure that all residents have the opportunity to lead healthy lives.

Further details regarding specific programs and future events resulting from this collaboration are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The focus remains on proactive measures and community engagement to build a resilient public health framework in Central Corfu.
