- Electromechanical installation areas
- Sanitary facilities
- Restaurants
- Cafeterias
- Supermarkets

- Other commercial stores
The marine zone of the marina, covering an area of approximately 102,000 square meters, will feature the construction of new coastal quays, a windward pier, and floating docks, significantly enhancing the port’s capacity and services.
Impact on Local Tourism
This development is anticipated to have a profound positive impact on Corfu’s tourism landscape. The new marina will attract a higher volume of yachts and marine tourism, creating new job opportunities and stimulating local businesses. It aligns with Greece’s broader strategy to enhance its tourism infrastructure and offer premium services to visitors.
Economic Boost for Corfu
Local stakeholders and government officials have expressed optimism regarding the project’s economic benefits. The increased tourist traffic is expected to generate substantial revenue for the island, supporting various sectors from hospitality to retail. The project’s approval underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism development in key regions like Corfu.
Future Developments and Regional Context
The approval of the Imerolia Marina follows other significant tourism-related news in the region. Recently, it was reported that Greece is the 5th most popular destination in Europe for Airbnb, with 52 million overnight stays in short-term rentals. Additionally, a new 45 million euro investment is underway in Crete, further highlighting the dynamic growth of the Greek tourism industry.
Corfu itself has seen various developments aimed at bolstering its tourism appeal. These include new Hilton hotels opening in Greece, a 5% decrease in port traffic during Easter in Corfu (indicating specific seasonal trends), and Greece remaining a top cruise destination. Furthermore, easyJet has announced new direct flights from Newcastle to Corfu, enhancing accessibility for international tourists.
Despite the positive outlook, challenges remain, particularly concerning infrastructure in Corfu, where tourism drives the economy with over 1 billion euros. The development of Imerolia Marina is a crucial step in addressing some of these infrastructure needs and ensuring Corfu’s continued growth as a premier tourist destination.
