Mar-Bella Collection and Mermaids Corfu Launch ‘Sea Wolves – Protectors of the Sea’ Initiative
Corfu, April 24, 2026 – With a steadfast commitment to protecting Corfu’s natural wealth, the Mar-Bella Collection hotel group has announced the organization of the experiential workshop ‘Sea Wolves – Protectors of the Sea’. This event, held in collaboration with the volunteer group Mermaids in Action, is a central initiative by the Group to raise awareness among the younger generation about marine biodiversity.
The activity is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, at the beach of Agios Ioannis Peristeron. It invites young participants on an exciting mission to explore and care for the marine ecosystem. Through activities, role-playing, and creative storytelling, children will discover the vastness of the sea, understand the importance of marine biodiversity, and become aware of the dangers threatening marine organisms, taking an active role in their protection.
Event Schedule:
- Location: Agios Ioannis Peristeron Beach
- 11:00 – Welcome: Public reception
- 11:30 – Children’s Workshop: An interactive workshop where children will meet ‘Corfu the Mermaid’ and the magical world of the seabed.
- 11:45 – Symbolic Beach Cleanup: An experiential activity where children and adults actively participate in cleaning the beach, learning the importance of personal responsibility.
- 12:20 – Surprise Visit: Mermaids will appear to highlight the effects of pollution on their ‘home,’ the marine environment, and marine life through an educational game.
- 13:00 – Snacks: Mar-Bella Collection will offer light snacks to participants.
- 13:30 – Award Ceremony: Recognition of children who participated in the activity.
The ‘Sea Wolves – Protectors of the Sea’ workshop is an environmental education experience that combines knowledge with play, cultivating in children a love, respect, and responsibility towards nature. The event is open to the public, and participation is free, as Mar-Bella Collection’s goal is to raise awareness among the local community and visitors to the island.
“At Mar-Bella Collection, our commitment to sustainability actively includes the protection of the marine environment,” states Anastasia Psarra, Corporate Communications & ESG Manager at Mar-Bella Collection. “Creating a positive impact in the destinations where we operate is our main priority, with inspiring and raising awareness among the new generation being one of the most important parts of this effort.”
“We are particularly pleased that a group like Mar-Bella Collection, for the second consecutive year, is committed as a local business to protecting Corfu’s valuable marine wealth,” adds Sofia Michalopoulou, founder of Mermaids Corfu. “When we can see the place where we live through a different perspective, such as that of Corfu the Mermaid, perhaps we can become more deeply aware and care for its beauty – so that the children of the future can also experience the magical world of its seabed.”
“You… see it.”
“Together we can change the tide.”
In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, May 24th. If adverse weather conditions persist, a new date will be announced.
