Bright Monday Celebrated with Solemnity in Corfu

Corfu, Greece – On Bright Monday, April 13, 2026, the Holy Monastery of Saints Theodore in Kamara, Corfu, was the site of a solemn Resurrectional Divine Liturgy. The service was officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxoi, and Diapontia Islands, marking a significant religious observance in the region.

Procession of Holy Relics and Blessing of Fields

Following the Divine Liturgy, a traditional procession of holy relics took place within the monastery grounds. This was succeeded by the Service of Sanctification, during which prayers were read for the blessing of the fields, a customary practice reflecting the agricultural roots and spiritual traditions of the community.

Metropolitan Nektarios’ Sermon: The Unwaning Light of Christ

In his sermon, rich in theological depth and pastoral care, His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios spoke about the unwaning light of the Risen Christ. He emphasized that this light never sets and represents the continuous gift of God’s presence in human life. He stressed that those who accept Christ and strive to live according to His will, with love and repentance, will joyfully partake in this light and in the life to come.

Human Choice and Divine Light

Conversely, the Metropolitan noted that those who choose to reject Christ, even in their present life, will experience the absence of His light as a state of suffering. This, he explained, highlights the responsibility and freedom inherent in human choice regarding faith and spiritual path.

Blessings for a Joyful Paschal Week

Concluding his address, His Eminence wished all the faithful that the joy of the Resurrection would remain vibrant in their hearts. He prayed that the unwaning light of Christ would illuminate their steps and strengthen them in life’s struggles, so they might be deemed worthy to eternally partake in His resurrected glory. He also extended his wishes for a good and blessed Bright Week (Diakainisimos).

The event, held with appropriate ecclesiastical splendor, underscores the deep spiritual traditions and vibrant religious life of Corfu and its surrounding islands, drawing the faithful together in celebration and reflection during the Paschal season.
