Corfu, April 5, 2026 – Temperatures across Corfu and Paxos surpassed 20°C on Lazarus Saturday, marking a notable thermal increase in the region. The maximum temperatures recorded were between 1.4°C and 4.0°C higher than the previous day.
Factors Contributing to the Temperature Rise
This upward trend in temperature is attributed to several factors, including improved weather conditions, abundant sunshine, weakening winds, and the gradual warming of the air mass affecting the Ionian Sea. According to the network of automatic meteorological stations in Corfu and Paxos, operated by MeteoCorfu, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in the city center by the Ionian University station, reaching 21.4°C.
Forecast for Palm Sunday and Coming Days
The warming trend is expected to continue on Palm Sunday, with temperatures generally ranging between 20-22°C and locally reaching up to 23°C. These spring-like temperatures and sunny conditions are forecast to persist until Holy Wednesday. This is due to high-pressure systems in the western Mediterranean, which are currently blocking cloud cover and adverse weather phenomena from reaching the region.
Uncertainty for Easter Holy Days Forecast
Regarding the weather outlook for the Holy Days of Easter, from Good Friday until the Resurrection of Christ, there remains a high degree of uncertainty in predictions. This is primarily because the time frame is still relatively long, and various forecasting models are presenting differing outcomes. MeteoCorfu has announced that a preliminary assessment will be released during the new Holy Week, followed by a more reliable forecast as the Holy Days draw nearer.
