Corfu Prepares to Host Key Solid Waste Management Conference

Corfu, Greece – April 4, 2026 – The Network of Solid Waste Management Bodies (FoDSA), in collaboration with local FoDSAs, will hold its annual Panhellenic Conference in Corfu from July 2-4, 2026. This significant event, the 18th of its kind, will bring together experts, scientists, and representatives from relevant ministries and European Union agencies to discuss the pressing issues of solid waste management and the transition to a circular economy in Greece.

Addressing National and European Waste Management Goals

The primary objective of the 18th Conference is to assess current data and identify future actions required for Greece to meet the stringent qualitative and quantitative targets set by European and national legislation. This includes the successful integration and implementation of circular economy principles across the country. Discussions will encompass the progress of the “Environment & Climate Change (PEKA) 2021-2027” program concerning necessary infrastructure projects, developments in recycling, and essential interventions in the institutional framework governing FoDSAs, Municipalities, and Alternative Management Systems.

These bodies are increasingly called upon to undertake a more complex role in urban solid waste management. The conference will provide a platform for participants to be informed, reflect, discuss, and exchange views on the multifaceted challenges they face.

Distinguished Participants and Key Topics

The conference will feature presentations from esteemed speakers and scientists with extensive knowledge and experience in solid waste management, sustainable practices, and the circular economy. The legislative framework governing urban solid waste management and the operations of FoDSAs will also be thoroughly examined. Representatives from co-competent Ministries, relevant European Union Services, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), and financial entities active in the solid waste management sector will also participate, ensuring a comprehensive and multi-stakeholder dialogue.

Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The Network of FoDSA and the Regional FoDSA of the Ionian Islands SA are co-organizing this event at the Corfu Holiday Palace in the Kanoni area. This collaboration underscores the commitment to fostering a sustainable future through improved waste management practices. The three-day event promises to be highly engaging, with significant interaction between presenters and attendees, facilitating a rich exchange of ideas and insights.

The conference comes at a crucial time as Greece strives to align its waste management strategies with broader European environmental goals. The insights and collaborations forged during this event are expected to play a vital role in shaping the nation’s approach to solid waste management for years to come.
