New President of Pan-Corfiot Association of America Unites Diaspora with Vision of Cultural Preservation and Community Support
Corfu, March 30, 2026 – Chris Manesis has been elected as the new President of the Pan-Corfiot Association of America, articulating a clear and unifying vision for the Corfiot diaspora in his inaugural letter to members. Manesis expressed humility and gratitude for the trust placed in him, promising to dedicate his efforts to ushering in a new era for the esteemed Association.
The new President’s letter, addressed to fellow Corfiots, highlights a commitment to fostering a sense of home away from home for all Corfiots in New York, regardless of their village or island of origin. Manesis pledged to maintain an open ear to the ideas and concerns of every member, emphasizing the positive impact of the newly elected Board of Directors, whose enthusiasm and dedication are expected to bring about positive outcomes for the Association’s future.
Three Core Principles for the Future
Manesis outlined three fundamental principles that will guide the Association’s mission:
- Cultural Preservation and Unity: To preserve Corfiot culture and maintain unity among the community across the tri-state area. He stressed the importance of safeguarding their rich heritage and passing it on to future generations.
- Community Contribution: To contribute to the community in the United States by assisting those in need, fostering the values of care and generosity inherent in the Corfiot people.
- Support for Corfiot Associations in New York: To support all Corfiot associations in New York, including those of Ereikoussa, Mathraki, Othonoi, and the Pan-Corfiot Association itself. Manesis underscored that these associations, with a combined history of over 230 years of service, are national treasures that must be preserved at all costs through mutual support and collaboration.
Past Successes and Future Endeavors
Manesis referenced the success of the ‘Corfu by Night’ event two years prior as an example of what a united Corfiot community can achieve. He also highlighted a recent fundraiser for the Association of Large Families of Corfu, which raised over $6,000 in less than three weeks, with contributions from Corfiots across the Diapontia Islands, the mainland, and friends and family. This success, he noted, demonstrates the immense potential when the community is united.
Looking ahead, the Association’s most significant upcoming event is the Greek Independence Day Parade. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece and a native of Corfu. In honor of this significant figure, the Pan-Corfiot Association, in collaboration with the associations of Ereikoussa, Mathraki, and Othonoi, will host the ‘Spyros Samaras’ Philharmonic Orchestra of Korakiana from Corfu.
All members are invited to participate and march alongside the orchestra on 5th Avenue on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Following the parade, the focus will shift to cultural heritage, with Manesis announcing the return of the Pan-Corfiot Association’s dance group. This group was once renowned as the finest Corfiot dance ensemble in the tri-state area. Recognizing Corfu as a musical island, Manesis believes there is no better way to preserve tradition than through the songs and dances of their beloved homeland.
Call for Continued Support and Engagement
Manesis expressed his gratitude for the time and support of the members, urging them to stay informed about upcoming events and projects throughout the year. He emphasized that member support is crucial for the Association’s success and expressed anticipation for their continued participation. Members are encouraged to follow the Association on Facebook and Instagram for the latest news and announcements.
Manesis concluded his letter by extending wishes for a Happy Easter to all.
