Literary Walk: Reading Through Athens – A Tribute to Menis Koumandareas

As part of the AILF, a special tribute will be paid to the renowned author Menis Koumandareas. On Sunday, March 29, participants can join a literary walk, following in the author’s footsteps through the city. Starting outside the Hotel Grande Bretagne, the walk will explore various Athenian landmarks that inspired Koumandareas’ works, delving into themes of love for the city and its complexities.

The journey will take participants through locations referenced in his novels, such as ‘The Siren of the Desert’, where they will reflect on the paradox of loving and simultaneously enduring a city. They will also revisit the story of the famous Maria through the eyes of a seventeen-year-old waiter, encounter ‘Mr. Chairman’ recounting the tale of ‘The Handsome Captain’ near the Parliament building, and discover the ‘Arcade of the Freemasons’ as described in ‘The Treasure of Time’. The walk concludes in Gazi, seeking traces of an old, yet unforgotten, ‘Glass Workshop’. This guided tour will take place on Sunday, March 29, from 11:00 to 14:00, with priority given on a first-come, first-served basis.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in collaboration with the WOW Foundation, presents the WOW – Women of the World Athens festival from March 27-30, 2026.
