Car Incinerated on Athens-Lamia Highway; Occupants Unscathed
Athens, March 2 – A vehicle was completely engulfed in flames and destroyed yesterday afternoon, Sunday, March 1, on the Athens-Lamia national highway. The incident occurred as the car was entering the lane at the Tragana toll booths. Despite the rapid spread of the fire, all passengers managed to exit the vehicle safely, preventing any injuries.
Rapid Response by Fire Department Averts Wider Danger
The fire, which quickly consumed the vehicle, raised concerns among authorities that the flames could potentially spread to the adjacent toll booth facilities due to the car’s proximity. Two fire engines, manned by four firefighters from the Atalanti Fire Department, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Their swift action brought the blaze under control, mitigating the risk of further damage.
The Fire Service confirmed that despite the total destruction of the car, there were no reported injuries. This was largely attributed to the timely escape of the occupants.
Investigation Launched into Cause of Fire
The investigative department of the Fire Service has initiated a preliminary inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. As of now, details regarding the origin of the blaze have not been released.
This incident highlights the potential dangers of vehicle fires on major roadways and the importance of rapid emergency response. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the investigation progresses. Traffic flow was temporarily affected in the vicinity of the Tragana toll booths during the emergency response, but has since returned to normal.
