North Corfu Municipality – Attention! Movement Remains Unsafe.

The Civil Protection Department of the North Corfu Municipality informs that weather phenomena are in full swing, and damages are continuous and unpredictable. Data is constantly changing, and the situation demands INCREASED ATTENTION from everyone.

INCREASED ATTENTION TO TRAVEL

Movement across the entire road network (prefectural, municipal, rural) is unsafe. Due to the complete saturation of the soil (‘swollen’ ground), there is an immediate danger from:

  • New debris and mud on the road.
  • Subsidence and sudden collapse of slopes.
  • Falling trees and overflowing waters.

Citizens are kindly requested to:

  1. Avoid unnecessary travel and limit themselves to absolutely essential movements.
  2. Drive at very low speeds.
  3. Fully comply with signage and instructions from crews operating on the road.

The protection of human life is our absolute priority. Do not underestimate the power of the phenomena.

The Civil Protection Department of the North Corfu Municipality and the Technical Service have been operating with crews on multiple fronts since early morning to address the problems.

AREAS OF ONGOING TARGETED INTERVENTIONS:

  • Megali Sidari: Clearances of debris, tree removal, and landslide management, restoration of accessibility to the coastal road.
  • Avliotes: Clearances of debris, tree removal, and landslide management.
  • Coastal road Roda – Acharavi: Clearing of embankments. Restoration of accessibility to the coastal road. Interventions are ongoing up to Acharavi beach.
