The joint performance, under the direction of maestro Kimon Chytiris, will accompany internationally renowned tenor Mr. Marios Frangoulis and Greek-French singer Ms. Daphne Krithara. They will present works by great Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hatzidakis, Stavros Xarchakos, Yiannis Markopoulos, and Dionysis Savvopoulos.

World Greek Language Day at UNESCO

The concert is part of the celebration of World Greek Language Day, a day dedicated to the timelessness, universality, and cultural radiance of the Greek language. The UNESCO General Conference, during its 43rd Session, approved the establishment of February 9 as ‘World Greek Language Day’. The first official international celebration after UNESCO’s proclamation will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Organization’s headquarters in Paris, marking a particularly significant moment for Hellenism and its linguistic heritage.

A High-Aesthetic and Symbolic Musical Program

This musical program is described as being of high aesthetic and symbolic value, highlighting the timeless relationship between music and language and honoring the Greek spirit and cultural identity through the power of art. The event is expected to gather ambassadors and diplomats from UNESCO’s 194 member states, as well as prominent personalities from the intellectual, academic, and political life of France, giving the evening particular weight and international appeal.

Corfu Conservatories: A Great Honor and Commitment to Culture

This participation is considered a great honor for the Corfu Conservatory, highlighting its high artistic level and confirming its continuous mission for the cultivation of musical education and the promotion of Greek culture in an international context. It is worth noting that the two orchestral ensembles performed for the same purpose on February 10, 2025, in Naples, before the official recognition of the Day by UNESCO, alongside Professor Ioannis Korinthios, the inspirer of World Greek Language Day, contributing substantially to the dissemination of this vision beyond Greek borders.

Special thanks were extended to the Regional Director of Education, Mr. Petros Angelopoulos, and the Director of the Corfu Music School, Ms. Alexandra Tzouma, for their excellent, creative, and long-standing cooperation, which actively supports every high-level cultural and educational initiative.
