Athens, December 23, 2025 – In a significant step towards digitalizing public services, Greek citizens can now electronically apply for the issuance of registry acts for events that took place abroad and were declared to the Special Registry Office before January 22, 2018. This new service, accessible via gov.gr, aims to streamline bureaucratic processes and provide greater convenience, especially for Greeks residing overseas.

New Online Service for Registry Acts

Until recently, the Special Registry Office processed approximately 3,000 such requests annually. The introduction of this online platform significantly reduces the need for citizens to physically visit the Special Registry Office or Citizen Service Centers (KEP), thereby cutting down processing times.

This initiative is particularly beneficial for Greeks abroad, who can now obtain excerpts of registry acts for events that occurred outside Greece without needing to visit a Consular Authority, schedule an appointment at a KEP, or travel to the Special Registry Office during temporary visits to the country.

How to Submit an Application

Citizens can submit their applications through gov.gr under the ‘Family’ category and its respective subcategories and pages, such as ‘Birth’ and ‘Birth Certificate’.

To facilitate these applications, the Special Registry Office Inbox (THEL) has been created, managed by the Directorate of Civil and Municipal Status of the Ministry of Interior. Applications are processed by the Special Registry Office, and responses are sent electronically to the citizen’s Inbox on gov.gr and to the Gov.gr Wallet.

The registry act, whether an excerpt or a full document, uploaded to the Inbox, possesses all the validity features of gov.gr documents, including a unique verification number and the electronic seal of the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Services Available Through KEPs

It is important to note that citizens can also be served through KEPs, as a similar function is provided to KEP employees nationwide. They can submit applications on behalf of citizens who personally visit KEPs to the Special Registry Office Inbox. In this case, citizens receive the response in their gov.gr Inbox or can collect it from a KEP.

The option for digital issuance of registry act excerpts for events that occurred abroad after January 22, 2018, remains available both through gov.gr and KEPs.

The design and implementation of this project were carried out by the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance, with the support of the National Technology and Research Network (EDYTE S.A. – GRNET) of the Ministry of Digital Governance, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Internal Affairs and Organization of the Ministry of Interior.
