Athens, December 23, 2025 – The Pan-Attica Federation of Farmers’ Market Vendors’ Associations (POSPLA) has released the festive operating schedule for Athens’ farmers’ markets, ensuring residents can complete their holiday shopping with fresh produce and a wide variety of choices.

Farmers’ Markets to Operate Normally on Christmas Eve

According to the official announcement from POSPLA, all farmers’ markets across Athens will maintain their regular operating hours on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24. This provision allows shoppers ample time to purchase all necessary items for their Christmas tables, as well as select gifts for family and friends.

“As every year, this Christmas the farmers’ markets will remain close to consumers, offering abundant supplies and a wide variety of choices for holiday shopping,” stated the Pan-Attica Federation in its announcement.

Closure on Official Christmas Holidays

In observance of the official Christmas holidays, Athens’ farmers’ markets will be closed on Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26. This closure is consistent with previous years’ practices, allowing vendors and staff to celebrate the festive period.

Return to Regular Hours on December 27

Following the two-day holiday closure, vendors will return to their stalls on Saturday, December 27, resuming normal operations. Consumers can expect the usual array of fresh produce and goods, with markets ready to serve the public as usual.

“The farmers’ markets in every neighborhood remain the reliable go-to option for holiday shopping, providing quality, ample supply, and prompt service for everyone,” the announcement concluded, emphasizing the markets’ role as a trusted source for local communities.

Importance of Local Farmers’ Markets

Farmers’ markets, known locally as “Laiki Agora” in Greece, play a crucial role in providing fresh, seasonal produce directly to consumers. During the cooler months, these markets continue to be a vital part of the Greek lifestyle, offering a direct link between producers and the public.

The consistent operation during the festive period, with strategic closures for public holidays, underscores the commitment of POSPLA to support both vendors and consumers during a peak shopping season. Residents are encouraged to plan their shopping accordingly to take full advantage of the fresh offerings available before the holiday closures.

For further updates on local events and news from Athens and around the world, residents can stay informed via local news outlets and official announcements from relevant associations.
