ATHENS, December 22 – The Ionian University officially announced its participation in a significant event hosted by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) titled ‘Presentation of IKY Scholarships within the framework of the program “Human Resources and Social Cohesion” (ESPA 2021-2027)’. The event took place on December 11 at the ‘Ioannis Drakopoulos’ Amphitheater of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

Event Aims to Inform Academic Community and Students

The primary objective of the event was to provide comprehensive information to the academic community across Greece and to interested students about the study funding opportunities offered by IKY. These scholarships are available for all cycles of study and cater to a wide range of applicants, including students with disabilities. The ‘Human Resources and Social Cohesion’ program is co-funded by Greece and the European Social Fund (ESF+).

Prominent Speakers Emphasize Academic Excellence

The opening remarks of the event were delivered by distinguished personalities, including Ms. Vasiliki Kinti, President of the IKY Board of Directors and Professor Emeritus of NKUA; Mr. Panagiotis Petrakis, Vice President of the IKY Board of Directors and Professor Emeritus of NKUA; and Professor Sofia Papaioannou, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Outreach of NKUA. All speakers underscored the critical importance of strengthening human potential and fostering academic excellence.

The Ionian University was represented at the event by Ms. Elsa Karageorgou, a member of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP) of the Ionian University.

Scholarship Programs Under ESPA 2021-2027 and Legacies Presented

The main part of the event featured detailed presentations of the IKY scholarships implemented within the framework of ESPA 2021-2027. Additionally, postgraduate scholarships funded by the legacies of ‘Nikolaos D. Chrysovergis’, ‘In memory of Maria Zaousi’, and the ‘Theodoridis Educational Legacy’ were also showcased. These presentations highlighted the broad spectrum of opportunities available and the potential for supporting young scientists in their academic pursuits.

Accessibility and Reach Through Live Broadcast and Sign Language

To ensure wider reach and inclusivity, the event was broadcast live online and recorded. The video is now accessible on IKY’s official YouTube channel. Furthermore, Greek Sign Language interpretation was provided during the event, significantly enhancing its accessibility and participatory nature for all attendees.

The Ionian University’s participation in this event underscores its commitment to promoting educational opportunities and supporting students in their academic and professional development, aligning with national and European initiatives for human resource development and social cohesion.
