Corfu, December 11 – The Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Giannis Trepeklis, was recently briefed by Theodoros Papavlasopoulos, CEO of ANION S.A. OTA, regarding the comprehensive evaluation of the “LEADER/CLLD Local Program 2014-2022.” This program is set to conclude its current phase at the end of the year, marking a significant milestone for regional development.
Positive Outcomes and Overachieved Targets
The evaluation results have been overwhelmingly positive, indicating a substantial impact not only on the image of ANION S.A., where the Ionian Islands Region (PIN) is a major shareholder, but also on the broader economic and developmental landscape of the intervention areas. The report specifically focused on comparing the final outcomes of the LEADER initiative for the regions of Corfu and Lefkada against the initial objectives and priorities established during the local community consultations at the program’s inception in 2016.
Remarkably, all targets across various fields were overachieved, laying a robust foundation for the upcoming Programmatic Period 2023-2027. The evaluation also provided valuable insights and recommendations for further improvement of operational procedures, ensuring continuous enhancement of the program’s effectiveness.
Extended Discussions and Future Prospects
The meeting, which also saw the participation of Deputy Regional Governor Aimilia Moschou, who chairs the LEADER Management Committee, included an extensive discussion on the opportunities and prospects that the LEADER approach can offer to the wider Ionian Islands region. This strategic discussion highlighted the potential for further leveraging the LEADER framework to foster sustainable development and economic growth across the islands.
To facilitate a more structured dialogue and collaboration, it was agreed to organize a broader discussion involving the other two Development Companies of the Region between Christmas and New Year. This timely initiative aims to prepare for the new Programmatic Period, which commences at the beginning of the new year, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach to future development efforts.
Acknowledgments and Continued Support
On behalf of the ANION Local Action Group, Mr. Papavlasopoulos extended his gratitude to Mr. Trepeklis for his unwavering support to the company. This support was particularly significant during his four-year tenure as president and continues to be crucial in his current capacity as Regional Governor. Such consistent backing underscores the collaborative spirit essential for the successful implementation of regional development initiatives.
The positive evaluation of the LEADER/CLLD program serves as a testament to the effective collaboration between local authorities, development agencies, and local communities. It reinforces the commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for the residents of the Ionian Islands.
The successful completion of this program phase and the proactive planning for the next period signal a promising future for regional development in Corfu and Lefkada, with a continued focus on community-led initiatives and economic growth.
