Athens, December 11 – Greek carrier SKY express has officially inaugurated direct flights connecting Athens with Hamburg, Germany. This new route marks the airline’s fifth destination in Germany, significantly strengthening its presence in a key European market.
New Route Operates Three Times Weekly
The Athens-Hamburg service will operate three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. SKY express will deploy its modern Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft for these flights, ensuring a comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers.
Alexandros Michalopoulos, Sales Manager for SKY express, highlighted the strategic importance of this new connection. “The launch of direct flights between Athens and Hamburg represents a key step in strengthening our presence in Germany, a market of significant interest for Greek tourism,” he stated during the inaugural flight event. Michalopoulos further emphasized the airline’s commitment to providing travelers from Germany with “reliable options, competitive services, and access to Greece’s largest network of destinations, 365 days a year.”
Strengthening Ties Between Greece and Germany
Hamburg now joins Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Berlin as part of SKY express’s expanding German network. This expansion underscores the airline’s strategic focus on northern Europe and aligns with broader efforts to enhance tourism and economic relations between Greece and Germany.
Dirk Behrens, Head of Aviation at Hamburg Airport, welcomed the new route, stating, “The direct connection to Athens enhances access to a highly popular destination and provides more options for both leisure and business travelers. At the same time, the route strengthens economic relations and tourism flows between Greece and northern Germany.”
SKY express’s Expanding International Network
SKY express currently operates a fleet of 29 aircraft, boasting Greece’s newest airline fleet, which contributes to reduced environmental and noise impacts. With the addition of Hamburg, the airline now serves 27 international destinations, further solidifying Greece’s position in the European air travel market.
Recent network expansions by SKY express include new direct flights to Lisbon, Madrid, Berlin, and Tel Aviv. Lyon is also scheduled to join the airline’s network by the end of the year, indicating a robust growth trajectory.
According to SKY express management, the Athens-Hamburg route not only provides another gateway to Greece for German travelers but also reflects the carrier’s steadfast commitment to year-round connectivity and continuous network growth across essential European markets.
