Athens, Attica, Greece – December 10, 2025 – The festive spirit is set to take over the streets of Athens as the city prepares for the much-anticipated Athens Santa Run 2025. This beloved annual event, combining the joy of the holiday season with a commitment to social solidarity, will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, commencing at 10:00 a.m. from the iconic Athens City Hall.
A Global Phenomenon with a Local Heart
Organized by the City of Athens, through the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth (OPANDA), in partnership with the Offline Running Association, the Athens Santa Run is more than just a race; it’s a vibrant celebration of community and giving. It mirrors similar successful events held in major cities worldwide, including Tokyo, New York, London, Venice, Budapest, and Madrid, bringing a global tradition to the heart of the Greek capital.
The event is designed for both children and adults, encouraging active participation in a collective effort to spread positive energy and the true message of Christmas. The city center will be transformed into a festive spectacle, filled with Christmas colors, smiles, and the infectious enthusiasm of hundreds of participants dressed as Santa Claus.
The Festive Route: A 2.8km Journey Through Historic Athens
The 2.8-kilometer charitable, festive, and symbolic route promises a memorable experience for all. Starting from the central meeting point at Athens City Hall (63 Athinas Street), participants will embark on a scenic journey through some of Athens’ most historic thoroughfares. The route continues along Athinas Street, offering breathtaking views of the Acropolis, before turning onto Ermou Street. It then proceeds to Agion Asomaton, onto Piraeus Street, and culminates at Omonia Square, before returning to Athinas Street for a grand, festive finish at the historic Kotzia Square.
Running for a Cause: Supporting Vulnerable Communities
A core aspect of the Athens Santa Run is its commitment to social responsibility. A significant portion of the proceeds generated from the event will be dedicated to the Reception and Solidarity Center of the City of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A.). K.Y.A.D.A. plays a vital role in the community, providing daily assistance, accommodation, meals, and social integration services to individuals and families grappling with poverty, social exclusion, and isolation.
Furthermore, a portion of the funds will be allocated to acquiring essential sports equipment for the City of Athens’ Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth. This dual charitable focus ensures that the event not only provides immediate relief to those in need but also invests in the long-term well-being and development of the city’s youth through sports and cultural activities.
