Corfu, December 3 – The Garitsa Grove Cultural Association, \”To Alsos,\” has issued a press release outlining its stance on Article 12 of the Operating Regulation of the Grove. This follows a meeting with the Mayor, the President of the Municipal Council, representatives of municipal factions, and a representative of the Environmental Protection Association.
Association Agrees to Article 12 with Specific Demands
The Association explicitly states its agreement to Article 12, but only under a crucial precondition: the Mayor must provide an explicit assurance regarding the legality of granting 45 square meters to health stores. This assurance must also confirm that the square footage will be strictly delimited and that this delimitation will be carried out naturally, as stipulated by regulations.
Legal Framework and Previous Interventions
The Association further emphasizes that, according to relevant legislation, the Garitsa – Anemomylos Grove is considered a \”saturated area for interventions and concessions.\” This classification is due to the fact that green spaces within the grove fall below the required 80% threshold. Consequently, no new concessions are permitted beyond those strictly provided for in the Regulation.
The Cultural Association reserves all its legal rights to take action in the event of any illegal concession or violation of the Operating Regulation. This firm stance underscores the association’s commitment to upholding legal and transparent practices within the grove.
Commitment to Legality and Public Character
In their statement, the Association reassures the citizens of Garitsa and Anemomylos that it will continue to champion legality, transparency, and the public character of the Grove. This commitment reflects their long-standing dedication to protecting the area, a principle they have consistently upheld over the years.
The President of the Board of Directors, Alexandros Vergis, signed the press release, reaffirming the association’s unified position on this matter. The association’s demands highlight a broader concern for the preservation and proper management of public spaces in Corfu, ensuring that any developments adhere strictly to legal and environmental guidelines.
The outcome of these discussions and the Mayor’s response to the association’s conditions will be closely watched by local residents and environmental groups, as it will set a precedent for future urban planning and environmental protection efforts in the region.
