14th Primary School and Experimental Kindergarten in Corfu Reopen After Disinfection
Corfu, December 2 – The 14th Primary School of Corfu and the adjacent Experimental Kindergarten, located in Bernier Villa, have fully reopened today. Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos announced the decision to the school administrations, confirming that all necessary restoration and hygiene protection measures have been completed.
Comprehensive Sanitation Works Undertaken
The reopening follows a series of thorough sanitation works designed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. These measures included:
- Washing and general cleaning of the outdoor area using two water tankers and pressure washers.
- Unblocking and restoring the functionality of the sewage disposal system to the network.
- Implementation of a rodent control program in the wider area of both schools.
- Disinfection of the outdoor area by a specialized crew contracted by the Municipality.
Mayor Poulimenos, who conducted an on-site inspection of the works yesterday, confirmed that the next step for the Municipality’s Civil Protection is the complete cleaning and lowering of the drainage ditch. This action aims to ensure the unobstructed reception and channeling of rainwater into a larger stream, preventing future problems.
Mayoral Visit Highlights School’s Exemplary Status
During his visit, Mayor Poulimenos was accompanied by members of the municipal crews, as well as Deputy Mayors for Technical Services Andreas Kardonas, Education, Health, and Welfare Christos Skourtis, and Civil Protection Efthymios Poulimenos.
The Mayor also toured the interior of the 14th Primary School, guided by its Director, Ms. Kalina Pappa, and other teachers. He observed firsthand the exceptional work being carried out, noting the care, diligence, and excellent aesthetic and functional design of the teaching spaces. This makes it one of the most exemplary schools in the city.
The swift and comprehensive response from the municipal authorities ensures that students can return to a safe and clean learning environment. The focus on both immediate sanitation and long-term infrastructure improvements underscores the commitment to public health and education in Corfu.
