Corfu Port Authority (OLKE S.A.) continues its impressive upward trajectory, establishing itself as one of the most dynamic maritime hubs in the Eastern Mediterranean. Recent data released today reveals a strong increase in cruise traffic and a strengthening of ferry connections with Igoumenitsa, Albania, and Italy, further solidifying the port’s position in the Adriatic’s tourism and transport landscape.
Cruise Sector Soars with 8.23% Increase
For the ten-month period from January to October 2025, cruise traffic in Corfu recorded a strong upward trend, with the total number of passengers reaching 845,744, compared to 781,444 for the corresponding period in 2024, marking an 8.23% increase. Transit passengers surpassed all previous records for the period, reaching 649,987 against 585,387 in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 11%. Cruise ship calls for the same period amounted to 428, up from 409 in 2024. Furthermore, 51 additional calls are already scheduled for November and December, a factor that reinforces efforts to extend the tourist season and provides a significant boost to the local economy.
The new cruise season for Corfu Port is set to begin on January 2, 2026, with the arrival of a cruise ship carrying 2,679 passengers to the island, inaugurating what is projected to be an exceptionally positive year with over 500 scheduled calls.
Ferry Connections Bolster Cross-Border Character
During the same period, ferry services have once again proven to be a stable pillar of development, with passenger flows substantially enhancing the port’s cross-border character. Traffic shows a steady and healthy increase, with Corfu now functioning as an inter-regional reference point serving both tourism and daily commuting needs.
Corfu-Igoumenitsa Line: Stable Growth
On the Corfu-Igoumenitsa line, which remains a significant daily transport axis, a small but steady increase was recorded. Disembarking passengers reached 791,494 compared to 785,796 in the corresponding period of 2024 (+0.73%), while embarking passengers amounted to 776,392 from 773,212 (+0.41%).
Corfu-Albania Line: Explosive Development
More intense is the upward trend in the connection with Albania, which is emerging as one of the fastest-growing maritime corridors in the region. Disembarking passengers surged to 327,360 from 272,694 (+20.05%), while embarking passengers rose to exceptionally high levels, reaching 318,718 compared to 245,243 in the first nine months of 2024 (+29.96%).
Corfu-Italy Line: Mixed Picture
The Corfu-Italy line presents a mixed picture, with disembarking passengers showing a slight decline compared to the corresponding period last year, reaching 32,493 from 38,155 in 2024 (-14.84%). However, embarking passengers increased significantly, to 33,458 from 26,421 (+26.63%).
CEO’s Vision: Corfu as a Leading Adriatic Port
Mr. Dimitris Apergis, CEO of OLKE S.A., stated: “This year’s port performance clearly demonstrates what we have been consistently building over the past few years. Corfu is evolving into a port that not only serves but plays a leading role in the Adriatic region. The cruise and ferry data prove that our port possesses dynamism, resilience, and potential. We continue to work on upgrading modern services and infrastructure, so that every ship and every passenger arriving here encounters a port that reflects the quality and character of Corfu.”
