Athens, November 29 – On Saturday, thousands gathered in Athens to express solidarity with the Palestinian people, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually on November 29th. The demonstration, organized by various bodies, organizations, and collectives, commenced with a rally and concluded with a march to the Israeli Embassy.
Powerful Visuals Highlight Child Casualties
A particularly impactful element of the mobilization was the display of banners meticulously listing the names of approximately 18,000 children under the age of 18 who have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Israeli offensive. These poignant visuals served as a stark reminder of the human cost of the conflict, drawing significant attention from participants and observers alike.

The protest saw the participation of a broad spectrum of groups, underscoring the widespread support for the Palestinian cause. Among the notable participants were BDS Greece, March to Gaza Greece, the Palestinian Community of Greece, the Union of Palestinian Workers, the “Stop the War” Alliance, the Workers’ Unions and Collectives’ Initiative for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, various student associations, the “Manolis Glezos” Memorial and Action Association, Anametrisi, Metavasi, Ksekina, KKE (m-l), OKDE, and other left-wing organizations. This diverse coalition highlighted the multifaceted nature of the solidarity movement.
International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
Similar actions were held on the same day in other cities across Greece and internationally. November 29th was designated as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in 1977 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly. This annual observance aims to raise awareness about the Palestinian issue and garner international support for their rights and self-determination.
The Athens demonstration remained peaceful, with participants expressing their views through banners, slogans, and speeches. The event served as a powerful testament to the ongoing commitment of various groups to advocate for justice and peace in the region.
The organizers emphasized the importance of continued international pressure to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to work towards a lasting and just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They reiterated their call for an end to the occupation and for the recognition of Palestinian rights.
The presence of student associations underscored the engagement of younger generations in the solidarity movement, indicating a sustained commitment to the cause. The “Manolis Glezos” Memorial and Action Association’s participation linked the current struggle with historical movements for justice and resistance.
The event concluded without incident, with participants dispersing peacefully after conveying their message. The organizers expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the strong show of solidarity, vowing to continue their efforts to support the Palestinian people.
