Six Alleged Gang Members Charged with Murder in Athens-Clarke County
ATHENS, GA, November 29, 2025 – Athens-Clarke police have charged six men, all alleged members of a street gang, with the murder of a Winterville man who died earlier this month after falling off an apartment balcony. The victim was reportedly fleeing an attempted armed robbery at the time of the incident.
The arrests were made in two phases: three suspects were charged in early November, and an additional three were apprehended in late November. All six individuals are currently incarcerated in the Athens-Clarke County Jail. Police officials were unavailable for comment on Friday regarding the possibility of further arrests in connection with the case.
Details of the Incident and Charges
All six suspects face charges of murder and armed robbery in the November 6 death of 22-year-old Antonio Lamar Jewell. Authorities responded to a call at The View at NODA housing complex shortly after 8 p.m., where they discovered Jewell on the ground along Madison Avenue with severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released specific details concerning the circumstances of the armed robbery or why Jewell was targeted. In addition to murder and armed robbery, the suspects are also charged with possessing firearms during a felony crime and violating Georgia’s street gang law. If convicted, they could face life sentences in prison.
Suspects Identified
The suspects arrested on November 24 and November 25 have been identified as:
- Dermetris Bernard Allen, 19, of Madison Avenue
- Christian Mandrell Antwion Hull, 18, of Morningside Drive
- Chedric Jon Marion Shivalo Stroud, 19, of Cabin Lane Extension
Earlier in November, police charged three other suspects:
- Samtavious Keyshun Clark, 23, of Hickman Drive
- Jeremiah Wendell Gresham, 18, of Martin Circle
- Kemorion Nesbitt, 18, with addresses in Athens and Snellville
Warrants obtained by authorities allege that these young men are members of a street gang known as Sex, Money, Murder.
Gang Activity in Athens
Athens is known to have several active street gangs, and the Athens-Clarke police department maintains a dedicated gang unit to monitor their activities. The Real Time Crime Center has also been instrumental in observing and documenting illegal activities, with one Athens officer recently monitoring drug deals in real-time.
In 2023, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr addressed a law enforcement gathering in Athens, emphasizing the widespread nature of gang activity across the state. Carr highlighted that gangs often target young individuals from lower-income and racially diverse communities for recruitment.
Among the gangs identified by police as operating in Athens are the Piru, the NBA (Never Broke Again), the 2 Tuff, Gangster Disciples, Rollin’ 20, Every Body Eats, and the Red Tape Gang.
The issue of gang violence in Athens gained significant attention in 2023 when seven people were wounded in a downtown shooting. Police investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute between rival gangs from Wilkes County, specifically the Blood Nine Trey gang and the Road Runners. Suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with those shootings.
The recent murder charges underscore the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating gang-related crime and ensuring public safety in Athens-Clarke County.
