Athens, November 22 – Greek Minister of Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis held a meeting on Friday afternoon with the new U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle at the Ministry headquarters in Athens. The discussions focused on strengthening economic relations and strategic cooperation between Greece and the United States.

Key Discussions: Investment and Strategic Cooperation

Minister Pierrakakis and Ambassador Guilfoyle, accompanied by their respective teams, delved into various aspects of Greece-U.S. investment issues and strategic cooperation. This dialogue is integral to the broader objective of further developing economic ties between the two countries, as stated by Pierrakakis in a Facebook post following the meeting, which also included accompanying photographs.

Ambassador Guilfoyle, in her inaugural interview on Greek TV with ANT1 last week, underscored Greece’s potential to become a significant energy hub. She indicated that this strategic importance was a key factor in President Donald Trump’s decision to appoint her as Ambassador to Greece.

Solid Foundation of Trust and Optimism for the Future

During their discussions on Friday, the Greek Finance Minister highlighted the historical dynamics that have shaped Greek-American relations. He emphasized that the two nations share a robust foundation of trust, enabling them to approach future endeavors with optimism and confidence.

Pierrakakis further noted Greece’s remarkable economic resurgence, positioning it as an increasingly attractive destination for American investment capital. He concluded by expressing Greece’s eagerness to continue its close strategic cooperation with the U.S., which he believes will solidify Greece’s role as a reliable partner and a pillar of stability within the region.

Ambassador Guilfoyle Honored in Piraeus

Earlier on Friday, Ambassador Guilfoyle was honored in Piraeus, the port city of Athens, where she was appointed Honorary President of the Propeller Club. This recognition, as stated in a Facebook post on the official U.S. Embassy in Athens account, “highlights the strong maritime ties and our shared commitment to supporting the shipping communities of both nations.”

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Guilfoyle remained in Piraeus to attend a basketball game at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, witnessing the match between Olympiakos and Paris Basketball. She was accompanied by Olympiacos owners Panagiotis and Giorgos Angelopoulos. This marked Ambassador Guilfoyle’s second attendance at an Olympiakos basketball game; during her previous visit last week, at a game against Zalgiris Kaunas, she was presented with an iconic No. 7 jersey bearing her name, a tribute to the legendary player Spanoulis.

The series of engagements underscores the multifaceted nature of the relationship between Greece and the U.S., encompassing economic, strategic, and cultural dimensions.
