Corfu, November 17 – A health action focused on preventative medicine for Roma children in Livadi Ropa, Corfu, on Wednesday, November 9, 2025, garnered a wide response from the Roma community. The initiative, organized by the Community Center with a Roma Branch of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, was implemented in collaboration with the Iatrokoinoniko Kentro Kerkyras (formerly PIKPA).

Successful Preventative Health Action for Roma Children

The results of the health action were particularly encouraging, demonstrating excellent preparation and coordinated efforts by all participants. The primary objective was to inform the Roma community about vaccinations and preventative medicine, as well as to provide medical examinations and vaccinations for children. Additionally, individual health cards for students were completed, and medical examinations were conducted for patients.

The Deputy Mayor of Social Protection and Welfare, along with the staff of the Community Center of the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands, extended their warm thanks to several key individuals for their professionalism and impeccable cooperation. These included pediatrician Ermioni-Theofania Alamanou and health visitors Spyridoula Tsarkou and Evridiki Spinoula from the Iatrokoinoniko Kentro Kerkyras. Appreciation was also extended to health visitor Niki Mouzakiti and nurse Elena Savvati from the Agios Markos Health Center.

Collaboration for Continuous Support of the Roma Community

The organizers expressed their anticipation for the continuation of this successful collaboration, with the shared goal of providing continuous support to the Roma community. This ongoing commitment highlights the importance of sustained efforts in public health outreach and community engagement.

The project, titled “Community Center of the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands with continued operation,” is co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Social Fund) through the “Ionian Islands 2021-2027” Operational Program. This funding underscores the European commitment to social inclusion and health equity for all communities.
