A 23-year-old man died after a motorcycle crash on Lavrio Avenue in the Glyka Nera area of Athens late on Wednesday night, according to local authorities.

Accident occurred at 11:40 PM on Wednesday

The fatal crash was reported at 11:40 PM on Wednesday, October 29, when the 23-year-old’s motorcycle veered off course and overturned on Lavrio Avenue in Glyka Nera.

Initial reports indicate the victim was heading toward Paiania when the incident occurred. The precise reason the motorcycle left the road and overturned remains unknown for now.

Victim pronounced dead at hospital

Emergency services arrived at the scene right after the crash. The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.

Based on preliminary information from the scene, no other vehicles appear to have been involved. Authorities have withheld the victim’s identity until the family is notified.

Investigation underway into cause of crash

Local police have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. They are examining the scene and will analyze all available evidence, including road conditions, weather factors, and any potential mechanical issues with the motorcycle.

The stretch of Lavrio Avenue where the crash occurred is a major thoroughfare connecting Athens with the southeastern suburbs and the port town of Lavrio. Crashes on this route are not uncommon, especially late at night when visibility may be reduced.

Rising concern over motorcycle safety

This latest death adds to growing concerns about motorcycle safety on Greek roads. Recent statistics show that motorcyclists account for a disproportionately high share of road deaths in Greece, even though they make up a smaller part of overall traffic.

Authorities continue to urge riders to use extreme caution, wear proper safety gear including helmets, and avoid excessive speeds, particularly on highways and major avenues.

The investigation into Wednesday night’s fatal crash is ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out any potential contributing factors at this stage.
