In a move that puts the island a step ahead in sustainable shipping, the Corfu Port Authority (OLKE S.A.) has joined the cross-border ARGONAUT project under Interreg VI-A Greece-Italy 2021-2027. A kick-off meeting in Taranto, Italy, earlier this week got the wheels turning to encourage cleaner maritime tourism and smarter, lower-emission port work in Corfu and around the Adriatic.
During the launch, OLKE CEO Dimitris Apergis met Gianfranco Gadaleta, Coordinator of the Joint Secretariat of Interreg Greece-Italy, and Dimitris Katsaros, Secretary-General of the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian. OLKE says the project will refresh key port amenities and lift Corfu’s international standing in nautical tourism.
How will this investment impact Corfu?
ARGONAUT answers real environmental, economic and social pressures in coastal zones and marinas that see heavy seasonal traffic. For Corfu, the plan puts cleaner energy use in the harbor first, brings in digital tools that help with safe, efficient routing, and expands skills for local people, from marina operators to small charter businesses.

OLKE will also test digital tools and green mobility actions, drawing on lessons from earlier EU and Interreg work.
Who is involved in delivering ARGONAUT?
The lead partner in Italy coordinates the work and the build of the Route Planner. Organizations from Apulia and the Municipality of Gallipoli support training, skills and communications. In Greece, OLKE leads the digital and mobility side, the Decentralized Administration makes sure results reach three regions, and the Port of Patras brings port-infrastructure experience with a pilot rollout of green tech.
When do upgrades start in Corfu?
With the project now officially started, detailed schedules for local installations are not yet public. OLKE notes that actions will follow the Interreg VI-A 2021-2027 framework, and says timelines and public updates will be shared as procurement and design steps are locked in.
